In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful.

Ayah: 1 |

Arabic: |
وَالضُّحَى
|
Pickthal: |
By the morning hours |
Shakir: |
I swear by the early hours of the day, |
Yusuf Ali: |
By the Glorious Morning Light, |
Ayah: 2 |
|
Arabic: |
وَاللَّيْلِ
إِذَا
سَجَى
|
Pickthal: |
And by the night when it is stillest, |
Shakir: |
And the night when it covers with darkness. |
Yusuf Ali: |
And by the Night when it is still,- |
Ayah: 3 |
|
Arabic: |
مَا
وَدَّعَكَ
رَبُّكَ
وَمَا
قَلَى
|
Pickthal: |
Thy Lord hath not forsaken thee nor doth He hate thee, |
Shakir: |
Your Lord has not forsaken you, nor has He become displeased, |
Yusuf Ali: |
Thy Guardian-Lord hath not forsaken thee, nor is He displeased. |
Ayah: 4 |

Arabic: |
وَلَلْآخِرَةُ
خَيْرٌ
لَّكَ مِنَ
الْأُولَى
|
Pickthal: |
And verily the latter portion will be better for thee than the former, |
Shakir: |
And surely what comes after is better for you than that which has gone before. |
Yusuf Ali: |
And verily the Hereafter will be better for thee than the present. |
Ayah: 5 |

Arabic: |
وَلَسَوْفَ
يُعْطِيكَ
رَبُّكَ
فَتَرْضَى
|
Pickthal: |
And verily thy Lord will give unto thee so that thou wilt be content. |
Shakir: |
And soon will your Lord give you so that you shall be well pleased. |
Yusuf Ali: |
And soon will thy Guardian-Lord give thee (that wherewith) thou shalt be well-pleased. |
Ayah: 6 |

Arabic: |
أَلَمْ
يَجِدْكَ
يَتِيمًا
فَآوَى
|
Pickthal: |
Did He not find thee an orphan and protect (thee)? |
Shakir: |
Did He not find you an orphan and give you shelter? |
Yusuf Ali: |
Did He not find thee an orphan and give thee shelter (and care)? |
Ayah: 7 |
|
Arabic: |
وَوَجَدَكَ
ضَالًّا
فَهَدَى
|
Pickthal: |
Did He not find thee wandering and direct (thee)? |
Shakir: |
And find you lost (that is, unrecognized by men) and guide (them to you)? |
Yusuf Ali: |
And He found thee wandering, and He gave thee guidance. |
Ayah: 8 |
|
Arabic: |
وَوَجَدَكَ
عَائِلًا
فَأَغْنَى
|
Pickthal: |
Did He not find thee destitute and enrich (thee)? |
Shakir: |
And find you in want and make you to be free from want? |
Yusuf Ali: |
And He found thee in need, and made thee independent. |
Ayah: 9 |

Arabic: |
فَأَمَّا
الْيَتِيمَ
فَلَا
تَقْهَرْ
|
Pickthal: |
Therefor the orphan oppress not, |
Shakir: |
Therefore, as for the orphan, do not oppress (him). |
Yusuf Ali: |
Therefore, treat not the orphan with harshness, |
Ayah: 10 |
|
Arabic: |
وَأَمَّا
السَّائِلَ
فَلَا
تَنْهَرْ
|
Pickthal: |
Therefor the beggar drive not away, |
Shakir: |
And as for him who asks, do not chide (him), |
Yusuf Ali: |
Nor repulse the petitioner (unheard); |
Ayah: 11 |
|
Arabic: |
وَأَمَّا
بِنِعْمَةِ
رَبِّكَ
فَحَدِّثْ
|
Pickthal: |
Therefor of the bounty of thy Lord be thy discourse. |
Shakir: |
And as for the favor of your Lord, do announce (it). |
Yusuf Ali: |
But the bounty of the Lord - rehearse and proclaim! |
