Ayah: 1
Arabic: طسم
Pickthal: Ta. Sin. Mim.
Shakir: Ta Sin Mim.
Yusuf Ali: Ta. Sin. Mim.

Ayah: 2
Arabic: تِلْكَ آيَاتُ الْكِتَابِ الْمُبِينِ
Pickthal: These are revelations of the Scripture that maketh plain.
Shakir: These are the verses of the Book that makes (things) clear.
Yusuf Ali: These are verses of the Book that makes (things) clear.

Ayah: 3
Arabic: لَعَلَّكَ بَاخِعٌ نَّفْسَكَ أَلَّا يَكُونُوا مُؤْمِنِينَ
Pickthal: It may be that thou tormentest thyself (O Muhammad) because they believe not.
Shakir: Perhaps you will kill yourself with grief because they do not believe.
Yusuf Ali: It may be thou frettest thy soul with grief, that they do not become Believers.

Ayah: 4
Arabic: إِن نَّشَأْ نُنَزِّلْ عَلَيْهِم مِّن السَّمَاء آيَةً فَظَلَّتْ أَعْنَاقُهُمْ لَهَا خَاضِعِينَ
Pickthal: If We will, We can send down on them from the sky a portent so that their necks would remain bowed before it.
Shakir: If We please, We should send down upon them a sign from the heaven so that their necks should stoop to it.
Yusuf Ali: If (such) were Our Will, We could send down to them from the sky a Sign, to which they would bend their necks in humility.

Ayah: 5
Arabic: وَمَا يَأْتِيهِم مِّن ذِكْرٍ مِّنَ الرَّحْمَنِ مُحْدَثٍ إِلَّا كَانُوا عَنْهُ مُعْرِضِينَ
Pickthal: Never cometh there unto them a fresh reminder from the Beneficent One, but they turn away from it.
Shakir: And there does not come to them a new reminder from the Beneficent Allah but they turn aside from it.
Yusuf Ali: But there comes not to them a newly-revealed Message from (Allah) Most Gracious, but they turn away therefrom.

Ayah: 6
Arabic: فَقَدْ كَذَّبُوا فَسَيَأْتِيهِمْ أَنبَاء مَا كَانُوا بِهِ يَسْتَهْزِئُون
Pickthal: Now they have denied (the Truth); but there will come unto them tidings of that whereat they used to scoff.
Shakir: So they have indeed rejected (the truth), therefore the news of that which they mock shall soon come to them.
Yusuf Ali: They have indeed rejected (the Message): so they will know soon (enough) the truth of what they mocked at!

Ayah: 7
Arabic: أَوَلَمْ يَرَوْا إِلَى الْأَرْضِ كَمْ أَنبَتْنَا فِيهَا مِن كُلِّ زَوْجٍ كَرِيمٍ
Pickthal: Have they not seen the earth, how much of every fruitful kind We make to grow therein?
Shakir: Do they not see the earth, how many of every noble kind We have caused to grow in it?
Yusuf Ali: Do they not look at the earth,- how many noble things of all kinds We have produced therein?

Ayah: 8
Arabic: إِنَّ فِي ذَلِكَ لَآيَةً وَمَا كَانَ أَكْثَرُهُم مُّؤْمِنِينَ
Pickthal: Lo! herein is indeed a portent; yet most of them are not believers.
Shakir: Most surely there is a sign in that, but most of them will not believe.
Yusuf Ali: Verily, in this is a Sign: but most of them do not believe.

Ayah: 9
Arabic: وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَهُوَ الْعَزِيزُ الرَّحِيمُ
Pickthal: And lo! thy Lord! He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful.
Shakir: And most surely your Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful.
Yusuf Ali: And verily, thy Lord is He, the Exalted in Might, Most Merciful.

Ayah: 10
Arabic: وَإِذْ نَادَى رَبُّكَ مُوسَى أَنِ ائْتِ الْقَوْمَ الظَّالِمِينَ
Pickthal: And when thy Lord called Moses, saying: Go unto the wrongdoing folk,
Shakir: And when your Lord called out to Musa, saying: Go to the unjust people,
Yusuf Ali: Behold, thy Lord called Moses: "Go to the people of iniquity,-

Ayah: 11
Arabic: قَوْمَ فِرْعَوْنَ أَلَا يَتَّقُونَ
Pickthal: The folk of Pharaoh. Will they not ward off (evil)?
Shakir: The people of Firon: Will they not guard (against evil)?
Yusuf Ali: "The people of the Pharaoh: will they not fear Allah?"

Ayah: 12
Arabic: قَالَ رَبِّ إِنِّي أَخَافُ أَن يُكَذِّبُونِ
Pickthal: He said: My Lord! Lo! I fear that they will deny me,
Shakir: He said: O my Lord! surely I fear that they will reject me;
Yusuf Ali: He said: "O my Lord! I do fear that they will charge me with falsehood:

Ayah: 13
Arabic: وَيَضِيقُ صَدْرِي وَلَا يَنطَلِقُ لِسَانِي فَأَرْسِلْ إِلَى هَارُونَ
Pickthal: And I shall be embarrassed, and my tongue will not speak plainly, therefor send for Aaron (to help me).
Shakir: And by breast straitens, and my tongue is not eloquent, therefore send Thou to Haroun (to help me);
Yusuf Ali: "My breast will be straitened. And my speech may not go (smoothly): so send unto Aaron.

Ayah: 14
Arabic: وَلَهُمْ عَلَيَّ ذَنبٌ فَأَخَافُ أَن يَقْتُلُونِ
Pickthal: And they have a crime against me, so I fear that they will kill me.
Shakir: And they have a crime against me, therefore I fear that they may slay me.
Yusuf Ali: "And (further), they have a charge of crime against me; and I fear they may slay me."

Ayah: 15
Arabic: قَالَ كَلَّا فَاذْهَبَا بِآيَاتِنَا إِنَّا مَعَكُم مُّسْتَمِعُونَ
Pickthal: He said: Nay, verily. So go ye twain with Our tokens. Lo! We shall be with you, Hearing.
Shakir: He said: By no means, so go you both with Our signs; surely We are with you, hearing;
Yusuf Ali: Allah said: "By no means! proceed then, both of you, with Our Signs; We are with you, and will listen (to your call).

Ayah: 16
Arabic: فَأْتِيَا فِرْعَوْنَ فَقُولَا إِنَّا رَسُولُ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ
Pickthal: And come together unto Pharaoh and say: Lo! we bear a message of the Lord of the Worlds,
Shakir: Then come to Firon and say: Surely we are the messengers of the Lord of the worlds:
Yusuf Ali: "So go forth, both of you, to Pharaoh, and say: 'We have been sent by the Lord and Cherisher of the worlds;

Ayah: 17
Arabic: أَنْ أَرْسِلْ مَعَنَا بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ
Pickthal: (Saying): Let the Children of Israel go with us.
Shakir: Then send with us the children of Israel.
Yusuf Ali: "'Send thou with us the Children of Israel.'"

Ayah: 18
Arabic: قَالَ أَلَمْ نُرَبِّكَ فِينَا وَلِيدًا وَلَبِثْتَ فِينَا مِنْ عُمُرِكَ سِنِينَ
Pickthal: (Pharaoh) said (unto Moses): Did we not rear thee among us as a child? And thou didst dwell many years of thy life among us,
Shakir: (Firon) said: Did we not bring you up as a child among us, and you tarried among us for (many) years of your life?
Yusuf Ali: (Pharaoh) said: "Did we not cherish thee as a child among us, and didst thou not stay in our midst many years of thy life?

Ayah: 19
Arabic: وَفَعَلْتَ فَعْلَتَكَ الَّتِي فَعَلْتَ وَأَنتَ مِنَ الْكَافِرِينَ
Pickthal: And thou didst that thy deed which thou didst, and thou wast one of the ingrates.
Shakir: And you did (that) deed of yours which you did, and you are one of the ungrateful.
Yusuf Ali: "And thou didst a deed of thine which (thou knowest) thou didst, and thou art an ungrateful (wretch)!"

Ayah: 20
Arabic: قَالَ فَعَلْتُهَا إِذًا وَأَنَا مِنَ الضَّالِّينَ
Pickthal: He said: I did it then, when I was of those who are astray.
Shakir: He said: I did it then while I was of those unable to see the right course;
Yusuf Ali: Moses said: "I did it then, when I was in error.

Ayah: 21
Arabic: فَفَرَرْتُ مِنكُمْ لَمَّا خِفْتُكُمْ فَوَهَبَ لِي رَبِّي حُكْمًا وَجَعَلَنِي مِنَ الْمُرْسَلِينَ
Pickthal: Then I fled from you when I feared you, and my Lord vouchsafed me a command and appointed me (of the number) of those sent (by Him).
Shakir: So I fled from you when I feared you, then my Lord granted me wisdom and made me of the messengers;
Yusuf Ali: "So I fled from you (all) when I feared you; but my Lord has (since) invested me with judgment (and wisdom) and appointed me as one ofthe messengers.

Ayah: 22
Arabic: وَتِلْكَ نِعْمَةٌ تَمُنُّهَا عَلَيَّ أَنْ عَبَّدتَّ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ
Pickthal: And this is the past favour wherewith thou reproachest me: that thou hast enslaved the Children of Israel.
Shakir: And is it a favor of which you remind me that you have enslaved the children of Israel?
Yusuf Ali: "And this is the favour with which thou dost reproach me,- that thou hast enslaved the Children of Israel!"

Ayah: 23
Arabic: قَالَ فِرْعَوْنُ وَمَا رَبُّ الْعَالَمِينَ
Pickthal: Pharaoh said: And what is the Lord of the Worlds?
Shakir: Firon said: And what is the Lord of the worlds?
Yusuf Ali: Pharaoh said: "And what is the 'Lord and Cherisher of the worlds'?"

Ayah: 24
Arabic: قَالَ رَبُّ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا إن كُنتُم مُّوقِنِينَ
Pickthal: (Moses) said: Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if ye had but sure belief.
Shakir: He said: The Lord of the heavens and the earth and what is between them, if you would be sure.
Yusuf Ali: (Moses) said: "The Lord and Cherisher of the heavens and the earth, and all between,- if ye want to be quite sure."

Ayah: 25
Arabic: قَالَ لِمَنْ حَوْلَهُ أَلَا تَسْتَمِعُونَ
Pickthal: (Pharaoh) said unto those around him: Hear ye not?
Shakir: (Firon) said to those around him: Do you not hear?
Yusuf Ali: (Pharaoh) said to those around: "Did ye not listen (to what he says)?"

Ayah: 26
Arabic: قَالَ رَبُّكُمْ وَرَبُّ آبَائِكُمُ الْأَوَّلِينَ
Pickthal: He said: Your Lord and the Lord of your fathers.
Shakir: He said: Your Lord and the Lord of your fathers of old.
Yusuf Ali: (Moses) said: "Your Lord and the Lord of your fathers from the beginning!"

Ayah: 27
Arabic: قَالَ إِنَّ رَسُولَكُمُ الَّذِي أُرْسِلَ إِلَيْكُمْ لَمَجْنُونٌ
Pickthal: (Pharaoh) said: Lo! your messenger who hath been sent unto you is indeed a madman!
Shakir: Said he: Most surely your Messenger who is sent to you is mad.
Yusuf Ali: (Pharaoh) said: "Truly your messenger who has been sent to you is a veritable madman!"

Ayah: 28
Arabic: قَالَ رَبُّ الْمَشْرِقِ وَالْمَغْرِبِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا إِن كُنتُمْ تَعْقِلُونَ
Pickthal: He said: Lord of the East and the West and all that is between them, if ye did but understand.
Shakir: He said: The Lord of the east and the west and what is between them, if you understand.
Yusuf Ali: (Moses) said: "Lord of the East and the West, and all between! if ye only had sense!"

Ayah: 29
Arabic: قَالَ لَئِنِ اتَّخَذْتَ إِلَهًا غَيْرِي لَأَجْعَلَنَّكَ مِنَ الْمَسْجُونِينَ
Pickthal: (Pharaoh) said: If thou choosest a god other than me, I assuredly shall place thee among the prisoners.
Shakir: Said he: If you will take a god besides me, I will most certainly make you one of the imprisoned.
Yusuf Ali: (Pharaoh) said: "If thou dost put forward any god other than me, I will certainly put thee in prison!"

Ayah: 30
Arabic: قَالَ أَوَلَوْ جِئْتُكَ بِشَيْءٍ مُّبِينٍ
Pickthal: He said: Even though I show thee something plain?
Shakir: He said: What! even if I bring to you something manifest?
Yusuf Ali: (Moses) said: "Even if I showed you something clear (and) convincing?"

Ayah: 31
Arabic: قَالَ فَأْتِ بِهِ إِن كُنتَ مِنَ الصَّادِقِينَ
Pickthal: (Pharaoh) said: Produce it then, if thou art of the truthful!
Shakir: Said he: Bring it then, if you are of the truthful ones.
Yusuf Ali: (Pharaoh) said: "Show it then, if thou tellest the truth!"

Ayah: 32
Arabic: فَأَلْقَى عَصَاهُ فَإِذَا هِيَ ثُعْبَانٌ مُّبِينٌ
Pickthal: Then he flung down his staff and it became a serpent manifest,
Shakir: So he cast down his rod, and lo! it was an obvious serpent,
Yusuf Ali: So (Moses) threw his rod, and behold, it was a serpent, plain (for all to see)!

Ayah: 33
Arabic: وَنَزَعَ يَدَهُ فَإِذَا هِيَ بَيْضَاء لِلنَّاظِرِينَ
Pickthal: And he drew forth his hand and lo! it was white to the beholders.
Shakir: And he drew forth his hand, and lo! it appeared white to the onlookers.
Yusuf Ali: And he drew out his hand, and behold, it was white to all beholders!

Ayah: 34
Arabic: قَالَ لِلْمَلَإِ حَوْلَهُ إِنَّ هَذَا لَسَاحِرٌ عَلِيمٌ
Pickthal: (Pharaoh) said unto the chiefs about him: Lo! this is verily a knowing wizard,
Shakir: (Firon) said to the chiefs around him: Most surely this is a skillful magician,
Yusuf Ali: (Pharaoh) said to the Chiefs around him: "This is indeed a sorcerer well-versed:

Ayah: 35
Arabic: يُرِيدُ أَن يُخْرِجَكُم مِّنْ أَرْضِكُم بِسِحْرِهِ فَمَاذَا تَأْمُرُونَ
Pickthal: Who would drive you out of your land by his magic. Now what counsel ye?
Shakir: Who desires to turn you out of your land with his magic; what is it then that you advise?
Yusuf Ali: "His plan is to get you out of your land by his sorcery; then what is it ye counsel?"

Ayah: 36
Arabic: قَالُوا أَرْجِهِ وَأَخَاهُ وَابْعَثْ فِي الْمَدَائِنِ حَاشِرِينَ
Pickthal: They said: Put him off, (him) and his brother, and send into the cities summoners
Shakir: They said: Give him and his brother respite and send heralds into the cities
Yusuf Ali: They said: "Keep him and his brother in suspense (for a while), and dispatch to the Cities heralds to collect-

Ayah: 37
Arabic: يَأْتُوكَ بِكُلِّ سَحَّارٍ عَلِيمٍ
Pickthal: Who shall bring unto thee every knowing wizard.
Shakir: That they should bring to you every skillful magician.
Yusuf Ali: "And bring up to thee all (our) sorcerers well-versed."

Ayah: 38
Arabic: فَجُمِعَ السَّحَرَةُ لِمِيقَاتِ يَوْمٍ مَّعْلُومٍ
Pickthal: So the wizards were gathered together at a set time on a day appointed.
Shakir: So the magicians were gathered together at the appointed time on the fixed day,
Yusuf Ali: So the sorcerers were got together for the appointment of a day well-known,

Ayah: 39
Arabic: وَقِيلَ لِلنَّاسِ هَلْ أَنتُم مُّجْتَمِعُونَ
Pickthal: And it was said unto the people: Are ye (also) gathering?
Shakir: And it was said to the people: Will you gather together?
Yusuf Ali: And the people were told: "Are ye (now) assembled?-

Ayah: 40
Arabic: لَعَلَّنَا نَتَّبِعُ السَّحَرَةَ إِن كَانُوا هُمُ الْغَالِبِينَ
Pickthal: (They said): Aye, so that we may follow the wizards if they are the winners.
Shakir: Haply we may follow the magicians, if they are the vanquishers.
Yusuf Ali: "That we may follow the sorcerers (in religion) if they win?"

Ayah: 41
Arabic: فَلَمَّا جَاء السَّحَرَةُ قَالُوا لِفِرْعَوْنَ أَئِنَّ لَنَا لَأَجْرًا إِن كُنَّا نَحْنُ الْغَالِبِينَ
Pickthal: And when the wizards came they said unto Pharaoh: Will there surely be a reward for us if we are the winners?
Shakir: And when the magicians came, they said to Firon: Shall we get a reward if we are the vanquishers?
Yusuf Ali: So when the sorcerers arrived, they said to Pharaoh: "Of course - shall we have a (suitable) reward if we win?

Ayah: 42
Arabic: قَالَ نَعَمْ وَإِنَّكُمْ إِذًا لَّمِنَ الْمُقَرَّبِينَ
Pickthal: He said: Aye, and ye will then surely be of those brought near (to me).
Shakir: He said: Yes, and surely you will then be of those who are made near.
Yusuf Ali: He said: "Yea, (and more),- for ye shall in that case be (raised to posts) nearest (to my person)."

Ayah: 43
Arabic: قَالَ لَهُم مُّوسَى أَلْقُوا مَا أَنتُم مُّلْقُونَ
Pickthal: Moses said unto them: Throw what ye are going to throw!
Shakir: Musa said to them: Cast what you are going to cast.
Yusuf Ali: Moses said to them: "Throw ye - that which ye are about to throw!"

Ayah: 44
Arabic: فَأَلْقَوْا حِبَالَهُمْ وَعِصِيَّهُمْ وَقَالُوا بِعِزَّةِ فِرْعَوْنَ إِنَّا لَنَحْنُ الْغَالِبُونَ
Pickthal: Then they threw down their cords and their staves and said: By Pharaoh's might, lo! we verily are the winners.
Shakir: So they cast down their cords and their rods and said: By Firon's power, we shall most surely be victorious.
Yusuf Ali: So they threw their ropes and their rods, and said: "By the might of Pharaoh, it is we who will certainly win!"

Ayah: 45
Arabic: فَأَلْقَى مُوسَى عَصَاهُ فَإِذَا هِيَ تَلْقَفُ مَا يَأْفِكُونَ
Pickthal: Then Moses threw his staff and lo! it swallowed that which they did falsely show.
Shakir: Then Musa cast down his staff and lo! it swallowed up the lies they told.
Yusuf Ali: Then Moses threw his rod, when, behold, it straightway swallows up all the falsehoods which they fake!

Ayah: 46
Arabic: فَأُلْقِيَ السَّحَرَةُ سَاجِدِينَ
Pickthal: And the wizards were flung prostrate,
Shakir: And the magicians were thrown down prostrate;
Yusuf Ali: Then did the sorcerers fall down, prostrate in adoration,

Ayah: 47
Arabic: قَالُوا آمَنَّا بِرَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ
Pickthal: Crying: We believe in the Lord of the Worlds,
Shakir: They said: We believe in the Lord of the worlds:
Yusuf Ali: Saying: "We believe in the Lord of the Worlds,

Ayah: 48
Arabic: رَبِّ مُوسَى وَهَارُونَ
Pickthal: The Lord of Moses and Aaron.
Shakir: The Lord of Musa and Haroun.
Yusuf Ali: "The Lord of Moses and Aaron."

Ayah: 49
Arabic: قَالَ آمَنتُمْ لَهُ قَبْلَ أَنْ آذَنَ لَكُمْ إِنَّهُ لَكَبِيرُكُمُ الَّذِي عَلَّمَكُمُ السِّحْرَ فَلَسَوْفَ تَعْلَمُونَ لَأُقَطِّعَنَّ أَيْدِيَكُمْ وَأَرْجُلَكُم مِّنْ خِلَافٍ وَلَأُصَلِّبَنَّكُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ
Pickthal: (Pharaoh) said: Ye put your faith in him before I give you leave. Lo! he doubtless is your chief who taught you magic! But verily yeshall come to know. Verily I will cut off your hands and your feetalternately, and verily I will crucify you every one.
Shakir: Said he: You believe in him before I give you permission; most surely he is the chief of you who taught you the magic, so you shall know: certainly I will cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides, and certainly I will crucify you all.
Yusuf Ali: Said (Pharaoh): "Believe ye in Him before I give you permission? surely heis your leader, who has taught you sorcery! but soon shall ye know! Be sureI will cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides, and I will causeyou all to die on the cross!"

Ayah: 50
Arabic: قَالُوا لَا ضَيْرَ إِنَّا إِلَى رَبِّنَا مُنقَلِبُونَ
Pickthal: They said: It is no hurt, for lo! unto our Lord we shall return.
Shakir: They said: No harm; surely to our Lord we go back;
Yusuf Ali: They said: "No matter! for us, we shall but return to our Lord!

Ayah: 51
Arabic: إِنَّا نَطْمَعُ أَن يَغْفِرَ لَنَا رَبُّنَا خَطَايَانَا أَن كُنَّا أَوَّلَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ
Pickthal: Lo! we ardently hope that our Lord will forgive us our sins because we are the first of the believers.
Shakir: Surely we hope that our Lord will forgive us our wrongs because we are the first of the believers.
Yusuf Ali: "Only, our desire is that our Lord will forgive us our faults, that we may become foremost among the believers!"

Ayah: 52
Arabic: وَأَوْحَيْنَا إِلَى مُوسَى أَنْ أَسْرِ بِعِبَادِي إِنَّكُم مُّتَّبَعُونَ
Pickthal: And We inspired Moses, saying: Take away My slaves by night, for ye will be pursued.
Shakir: And We revealed to Musa, saying: Go away with My servants travelling by night, surely you will be pursued.
Yusuf Ali: By inspiration we told Moses: "Travel by night with my servants; for surely ye shall be pursued."

Ayah: 53
Arabic: فَأَرْسَلَ فِرْعَوْنُ فِي الْمَدَائِنِ حَاشِرِينَ
Pickthal: Then Pharaoh sent into the cities summoners,
Shakir: So Firon sent heralds into the cities;
Yusuf Ali: Then Pharaoh sent heralds to (all) the Cities,

Ayah: 54
Arabic: إِنَّ هَؤُلَاء لَشِرْذِمَةٌ قَلِيلُونَ
Pickthal: (Who said): Lo! these indeed are but a little troop,
Shakir: Most surely these are a small company;
Yusuf Ali: (Saying): "These (Israelites) are but a small band,

Ayah: 55
Arabic: وَإِنَّهُمْ لَنَا لَغَائِظُونَ
Pickthal: And lo! they are offenders against us.
Shakir: And most surely they have enraged us;
Yusuf Ali: "And they are raging furiously against us;

Ayah: 56
Arabic: وَإِنَّا لَجَمِيعٌ حَاذِرُونَ
Pickthal: And lo! we are a ready host.
Shakir: And most surely we are a vigilant multitude.
Yusuf Ali: "But we are a multitude amply fore-warned."

Ayah: 57
Arabic: فَأَخْرَجْنَاهُم مِّن جَنَّاتٍ وَعُيُونٍ
Pickthal: Thus did We take them away from gardens and watersprings,
Shakir: So We turned them out of gardens and springs,
Yusuf Ali: So We expelled them from gardens, springs,

Ayah: 58
Arabic: وَكُنُوزٍ وَمَقَامٍ كَرِيمٍ
Pickthal: And treasures and a fair estate.
Shakir: And treasures and goodly dwellings,
Yusuf Ali: Treasures, and every kind of honourable position;

Ayah: 59
Arabic: كَذَلِكَ وَأَوْرَثْنَاهَا بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ
Pickthal: Thus (were those things taken from them) and We caused the Children of Israel to inherit them.
Shakir: Even so. And We gave them as a heritage to the children of Israel.
Yusuf Ali: Thus it was, but We made the Children of Israel inheritors of such things.

Ayah: 60
Arabic: فَأَتْبَعُوهُم مُّشْرِقِينَ
Pickthal: And they overtook them at sunrise.
Shakir: Then they pursued them at sunrise.
Yusuf Ali: So they pursued them at sunrise.

Ayah: 61
Arabic: فَلَمَّا تَرَاءى الْجَمْعَانِ قَالَ أَصْحَابُ مُوسَى إِنَّا لَمُدْرَكُونَ
Pickthal: And when the two hosts saw each other, those with Moses said: Lo! we are indeed caught.
Shakir: So when the two hosts saw each other, the companions of Musa cried out: Most surely we are being overtaken.
Yusuf Ali: And when the two bodies saw each other, the people of Moses said: "We are sure to be overtaken."

Ayah: 62
Arabic: قَالَ كَلَّا إِنَّ مَعِيَ رَبِّي سَيَهْدِينِ
Pickthal: He said: Nay, verily! for lo! my Lord is with me. He will guide me.
Shakir: He said: By no means; surely my Lord is with me: He will show me a way out.
Yusuf Ali: (Moses) said: "By no means! my Lord is with me! Soon will He guide me!"

Ayah: 63
Arabic: فَأَوْحَيْنَا إِلَى مُوسَى أَنِ اضْرِب بِّعَصَاكَ الْبَحْرَ فَانفَلَقَ فَكَانَ كُلُّ فِرْقٍ كَالطَّوْدِ الْعَظِيمِ
Pickthal: Then We inspired Moses, saying: Smite the sea with thy staff. And it parted, and each part was as a mountain vast.
Shakir: Then We revealed to Musa: Strike the sea with your staff. So it had cloven asunder, and each part was like a huge mound.
Yusuf Ali: Then We told Moses by inspiration: "Strike the sea with thy rod." So itdivided, and each separate part became like the huge, firm mass of amountain.

Ayah: 64
Arabic: وَأَزْلَفْنَا ثَمَّ الْآخَرِينَ
Pickthal: Then brought We near the others to that place.
Shakir: And We brought near, there, the others.
Yusuf Ali: And We made the other party approach thither.

Ayah: 65
Arabic: وَأَنجَيْنَا مُوسَى وَمَن مَّعَهُ أَجْمَعِينَ
Pickthal: And We saved Moses and those with him, every one;
Shakir: And We saved Musa and those with him, all of them.
Yusuf Ali: We delivered Moses and all who were with him;

Ayah: 66
Arabic: ثُمَّ أَغْرَقْنَا الْآخَرِينَ
Pickthal: And We drowned the others.
Shakir: Then We drowned the others.
Yusuf Ali: But We drowned the others.

Ayah: 67
Arabic: إِنَّ فِي ذَلِكَ لَآيَةً وَمَا كَانَ أَكْثَرُهُم مُّؤْمِنِينَ
Pickthal: Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers.
Shakir: Most surely there is a sign in this, but most of them do not believe.
Yusuf Ali: Verily in this is a Sign: but most of them do not believe.

Ayah: 68
Arabic: وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَهُوَ الْعَزِيزُ الرَّحِيمُ
Pickthal: And lo, thy Lord! He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful.
Shakir: And most surely your Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful.
Yusuf Ali: And verily thy Lord is He, the Exalted in Might, Most Merciful.

Ayah: 69
Arabic: وَاتْلُ عَلَيْهِمْ نَبَأَ إِبْرَاهِيمَ
Pickthal: Recite unto them the story of Abraham:
Shakir: And recite to them the story of Ibrahim.
Yusuf Ali: And rehearse to them (something of) Abraham's story.

Ayah: 70
Arabic: إِذْ قَالَ لِأَبِيهِ وَقَوْمِهِ مَا تَعْبُدُونَ
Pickthal: When he said unto his father and his folk: What worship ye?
Shakir: When he said to his father and his people: What do you worship?
Yusuf Ali: Behold, he said to his father and his people: "What worship ye?"

Ayah: 71
Arabic: قَالُوا نَعْبُدُ أَصْنَامًا فَنَظَلُّ لَهَا عَاكِفِينَ
Pickthal: They said: We worship idols, and are ever devoted unto them.
Shakir: They said: We worship idols, so we shall be their votaries.
Yusuf Ali: They said: "We worship idols, and we remain constantly in attendance on them."

Ayah: 72
Arabic: قَالَ هَلْ يَسْمَعُونَكُمْ إِذْ تَدْعُونَ
Pickthal: He said: Do they hear you when ye cry?
Shakir: He said: Do they hear you when you call?
Yusuf Ali: He said: "Do they listen to you when ye call (on them)?"

Ayah: 73
Arabic: أَوْ يَنفَعُونَكُمْ أَوْ يَضُرُّونَ
Pickthal: Or do they benefit or harm you?
Shakir: Or do they profit you or cause you harm?
Yusuf Ali: "Or do you good or harm?"

Ayah: 74
Arabic: قَالُوا بَلْ وَجَدْنَا آبَاءنَا كَذَلِكَ يَفْعَلُونَ
Pickthal: They said: Nay, but we found our fathers acting on this wise.
Shakir: They said: Nay, we found our fathers doing so.
Yusuf Ali: They said: "Nay, but we found our fathers doing thus (what we do)."

Ayah: 75
Arabic: قَالَ أَفَرَأَيْتُم مَّا كُنتُمْ تَعْبُدُونَ
Pickthal: He said: See now that which ye worship,
Shakir: He said: Have you then considered what you have been worshipping:
Yusuf Ali: He said: "Do ye then see whom ye have been worshipping,-

Ayah: 76
Arabic: أَنتُمْ وَآبَاؤُكُمُ الْأَقْدَمُونَ
Pickthal: Ye and your forefathers!
Shakir: You and your ancient sires.
Yusuf Ali: "Ye and your fathers before you?-

Ayah: 77
Arabic: فَإِنَّهُمْ عَدُوٌّ لِّي إِلَّا رَبَّ الْعَالَمِينَ
Pickthal: Lo! they are (all) an enemy unto me, save the Lord of the Worlds,
Shakir: Surely they are enemies to me, but not (so) the Lord of the worlds;
Yusuf Ali: "For they are enemies to me; not so the Lord and Cherisher of the Worlds;

Ayah: 78
Arabic: الَّذِي خَلَقَنِي فَهُوَ يَهْدِينِ
Pickthal: Who created me, and He doth guide me,
Shakir: Who created me, then He has shown me the way:
Yusuf Ali: "Who created me, and it is He Who guides me;

Ayah: 79
Arabic: وَالَّذِي هُوَ يُطْعِمُنِي وَيَسْقِينِ
Pickthal: And Who feedeth me and watereth me.
Shakir: And He Who gives me to eat and gives me to drink:
Yusuf Ali: "Who gives me food and drink,

Ayah: 80
Arabic: وَإِذَا مَرِضْتُ فَهُوَ يَشْفِينِ
Pickthal: And when I sicken, then He healeth me,
Shakir: And when I am sick, then He restores me to health
Yusuf Ali: "And when I am ill, it is He Who cures me;

Ayah: 81
Arabic: وَالَّذِي يُمِيتُنِي ثُمَّ يُحْيِينِ
Pickthal: And Who causeth me to die, then giveth me life (again),
Shakir: And He Who will cause me to die, then give me life;
Yusuf Ali: "Who will cause me to die, and then to life (again);

Ayah: 82
Arabic: وَالَّذِي أَطْمَعُ أَن يَغْفِرَ لِي خَطِيئَتِي يَوْمَ الدِّينِ
Pickthal: And Who, I ardently hope, will forgive me my sin on the Day of Judgment.
Shakir: And Who, I hope, will forgive me my mistakes on the day of judgment.
Yusuf Ali: "And who, I hope, will forgive me my faults on the day of Judgment.

Ayah: 83
Arabic: رَبِّ هَبْ لِي حُكْمًا وَأَلْحِقْنِي بِالصَّالِحِينَ
Pickthal: My Lord! Vouchsafe me wisdom and unite me to the righteous.
Shakir: My Lord: Grant me wisdom, and join me with the good
Yusuf Ali: "O my Lord! bestow wisdom on me, and join me with the righteous;

Ayah: 84
Arabic: وَاجْعَل لِّي لِسَانَ صِدْقٍ فِي الْآخِرِينَ
Pickthal: And give unto me a good report in later generations.
Shakir: And ordain for me a goodly mention among posterity
Yusuf Ali: "Grant me honourable mention on the tongue of truth among the latest (generations);

Ayah: 85
Arabic: وَاجْعَلْنِي مِن وَرَثَةِ جَنَّةِ النَّعِيمِ
Pickthal: And place me among the inheritors of the Garden of Delight,
Shakir: And make me of the heirs of the garden of bliss
Yusuf Ali: "Make me one of the inheritors of the Garden of Bliss;

Ayah: 86
Arabic: وَاغْفِرْ لِأَبِي إِنَّهُ كَانَ مِنَ الضَّالِّينَ
Pickthal: And forgive my father. Lo! he is of those who err.
Shakir: And forgive my father, for surely he is of those who have gone astray;
Yusuf Ali: "Forgive my father, for that he is among those astray;

Ayah: 87
Arabic: وَلَا تُخْزِنِي يَوْمَ يُبْعَثُونَ
Pickthal: And abase me not on the day when they are raised,
Shakir: And disgrace me not on the day when they are raised
Yusuf Ali: "And let me not be in disgrace on the Day when (men) will be raised up;-

Ayah: 88
Arabic: يَوْمَ لَا يَنفَعُ مَالٌ وَلَا بَنُونَ
Pickthal: The day when wealth and sons avail not (any man)
Shakir: The day on which property will not avail, nor sons
Yusuf Ali: "The Day whereon neither wealth nor sons will avail,

Ayah: 89
Arabic: إِلَّا مَنْ أَتَى اللَّهَ بِقَلْبٍ سَلِيمٍ
Pickthal: Save him who bringeth unto Allah a whole heart.
Shakir: Except him who comes to Allah with a heart free (from evil).
Yusuf Ali: "But only he (will prosper) that brings to Allah a sound heart;

Ayah: 90
Arabic: وَأُزْلِفَتِ الْجَنَّةُ لِلْمُتَّقِينَ
Pickthal: And the Garden will be brought nigh for those who ward off (evil).
Shakir: And the garden shall be brought near for those who guard (against evil),
Yusuf Ali: "To the righteous, the Garden will be brought near,

Ayah: 91
Arabic: وَبُرِّزَتِ الْجَحِيمُ لِلْغَاوِينَ
Pickthal: And hell will appear plainly to the erring.
Shakir: And the hell shall be made manifest to the erring ones,
Yusuf Ali: "And to those straying in Evil, the Fire will be placed in full view;

Ayah: 92
Arabic: وَقِيلَ لَهُمْ أَيْنَ مَا كُنتُمْ تَعْبُدُونَ
Pickthal: And it will be said unto them: Where is (all) that ye used to worship
Shakir: And it shall be said to them: Where are those that you used to worship;
Yusuf Ali: "And it shall be said to them: 'Where are the (gods) ye worshipped-

Ayah: 93
Arabic: مِن دُونِ اللَّهِ هَلْ يَنصُرُونَكُمْ أَوْ يَنتَصِرُونَ
Pickthal: Instead of Allah? Can they help you or help themselves?
Shakir: Besides Allah? Can they help you or yet help themselves?
Yusuf Ali: "'Besides Allah? Can they help you or help themselves?'

Ayah: 94
Arabic: فَكُبْكِبُوا فِيهَا هُمْ وَالْغَاوُونَ
Pickthal: Then will they be hurled therein, they and the seducers
Shakir: So they shall be thrown down into it, they and the erring ones,
Yusuf Ali: "Then they will be thrown headlong into the (Fire),- they and those straying in Evil,

Ayah: 95
Arabic: وَجُنُودُ إِبْلِيسَ أَجْمَعُونَ
Pickthal: And the hosts of Iblis, together.
Shakir: And the hosts of the Shaitan, all.
Yusuf Ali: "And the whole hosts of Iblis together.

Ayah: 96
Arabic: قَالُوا وَهُمْ فِيهَا يَخْتَصِمُونَ
Pickthal: And they will say, when they are quarrelling therein:
Shakir: They shall say while they contend therein:
Yusuf Ali: "They will say there in their mutual bickerings:

Ayah: 97
Arabic: تَاللَّهِ إِن كُنَّا لَفِي ضَلَالٍ مُّبِينٍ
Pickthal: By Allah, of a truth we were in error manifest
Shakir: By Allah! we were certainly in manifest error,
Yusuf Ali: "'By Allah, we were truly in an error manifest,

Ayah: 98
Arabic: إِذْ نُسَوِّيكُم بِرَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ
Pickthal: When we made you equal with the Lord of the Worlds.
Shakir: When we made you equal to the Lord of the worlds;
Yusuf Ali: "'When we held you as equals with the Lord of the Worlds;

Ayah: 99
Arabic: وَمَا أَضَلَّنَا إِلَّا الْمُجْرِمُونَ
Pickthal: It was but the guilty who misled us.
Shakir: And none but the guilty led us astray;
Yusuf Ali: "'And our seducers were only those who were steeped in guilt.

Ayah: 100
Arabic: فَمَا لَنَا مِن شَافِعِينَ
Pickthal: Now we have no intercessors
Shakir: So we have no intercessors,
Yusuf Ali: "'Now, then, we have none to intercede (for us),

Ayah: 101
Arabic: وَلَا صَدِيقٍ حَمِيمٍ
Pickthal: Nor any loving friend.
Shakir: Nor a true friend;
Yusuf Ali: "'Nor a single friend to feel (for us).

Ayah: 102
Arabic: فَلَوْ أَنَّ لَنَا كَرَّةً فَنَكُونَ مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ
Pickthal: Oh, that we had another turn (on earth), that we might be of the believers!
Shakir: But if we could but once return, we would be of the believers.
Yusuf Ali: "'Now if we only had a chance of return we shall truly be of those who believe!'"

Ayah: 103
Arabic: إِنَّ فِي ذَلِكَ لَآيَةً وَمَا كَانَ أَكْثَرُهُم مُّؤْمِنِينَ
Pickthal: Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers!
Shakir: Most surely there is a sign in this, but most of them do not believe.
Yusuf Ali: Verily in this is a Sign but most of them do not believe.

Ayah: 104
Arabic: وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَهُوَ الْعَزِيزُ الرَّحِيمُ
Pickthal: And lo, thy Lord! He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful.
Shakir: And most surely your Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful.
Yusuf Ali: And verily thy Lord is He, the Exalted in Might, Most Merciful.

Ayah: 105
Arabic: كَذَّبَتْ قَوْمُ نُوحٍ الْمُرْسَلِينَ
Pickthal: Noah's folk denied the messengers (of Allah),
Shakir: The people of Nuh rejected the messengers.
Yusuf Ali: The people of Noah rejected the messengers.

Ayah: 106
Arabic: إِذْ قَالَ لَهُمْ أَخُوهُمْ نُوحٌ أَلَا تَتَّقُونَ
Pickthal: When their brother Noah said unto them: Will ye not ward off (evil)?
Shakir: When their brother Nuh said to them: Will you not guard (against evil)?
Yusuf Ali: Behold, their brother Noah said to them: "Will ye not fear (Allah)?

Ayah: 107
Arabic: إِنِّي لَكُمْ رَسُولٌ أَمِينٌ
Pickthal: Lo! I am a faithful messenger unto you,
Shakir: Surely I am a faithful messenger to you;
Yusuf Ali: "I am to you a messenger worthy of all trust:

Ayah: 108
Arabic: فَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُونِ
Pickthal: So keep your duty to Allah, and obey me.
Shakir: Therefore guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me
Yusuf Ali: "So fear Allah, and obey me.

Ayah: 109
Arabic: وَمَا أَسْأَلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ أَجْرٍ إِنْ أَجْرِيَ إِلَّا عَلَى رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ
Pickthal: And I ask of you no wage therefor; my wage is the concern only of the Lord of the Worlds.
Shakir: And I do not ask you any reward for it; my reward is only with the Lord of the worlds:
Yusuf Ali: "No reward do I ask of you for it: my reward is only from the Lord of the Worlds:

Ayah: 110
Arabic: فَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُونِ
Pickthal: So keep your duty to Allah, and obey me.
Shakir: So guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me.
Yusuf Ali: "So fear Allah, and obey me."

Ayah: 111
Arabic: قَالُوا أَنُؤْمِنُ لَكَ وَاتَّبَعَكَ الْأَرْذَلُونَ
Pickthal: They said: Shall we put faith in thee, when the lowest (of the people) follow thee?
Shakir: They said: Shall we believe in you while the meanest follow you?
Yusuf Ali: They said: "Shall we believe in thee when it is the meanest that follow thee?"

Ayah: 112
Arabic: قَالَ وَمَا عِلْمِي بِمَا كَانُوا يَعْمَلُونَ
Pickthal: He said: And what knowledge have I of what they may have been doing (in the past)?
Shakir: He said: And what knowledge have I of what they do?
Yusuf Ali: He said: "And what do I know as to what they do?

Ayah: 113
Arabic: إِنْ حِسَابُهُمْ إِلَّا عَلَى رَبِّي لَوْ تَشْعُرُونَ
Pickthal: Lo! their reckoning is my Lord's concern, if ye but knew;
Shakir: Their account is only with my Lord, if you could perceive
Yusuf Ali: "Their account is only with my Lord, if ye could (but) understand.

Ayah: 114
Arabic: وَمَا أَنَا بِطَارِدِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ
Pickthal: And I am not (here) to repulse believers.
Shakir: And I am not going to drive away the believers;
Yusuf Ali: "I am not one to drive away those who believe.

Ayah: 115
Arabic: إِنْ أَنَا إِلَّا نَذِيرٌ مُّبِينٌ
Pickthal: I am only a plain warner.
Shakir: I am naught but a plain warner.
Yusuf Ali: "I am sent only to warn plainly in public."

Ayah: 116
Arabic: قَالُوا لَئِن لَّمْ تَنتَهِ يَا نُوحُ لَتَكُونَنَّ مِنَ الْمَرْجُومِينَ
Pickthal: They said: If thou cease not, O Noah, thou wilt surely be among those stoned (to death).
Shakir: They said: If you desist not, O Nuh, you shall most certainly be of those stoned to death.
Yusuf Ali: They said: "If thou desist not, O Noah! thou shalt be stoned (to death)."

Ayah: 117
Arabic: قَالَ رَبِّ إِنَّ قَوْمِي كَذَّبُونِ
Pickthal: He said: My Lord! Lo! my own folk deny me.
Shakir: He said: My Lord! Surely my people give me the lie!
Yusuf Ali: He said: "O my Lord! truly my people have rejected me.

Ayah: 118
Arabic: فَافْتَحْ بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَهُمْ فَتْحًا وَنَجِّنِي وَمَن مَّعِي مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ
Pickthal: Therefor judge Thou between us, a (conclusive) judgment, and save me and those believers who are with me.
Shakir: Therefore judge Thou between me and them with a (just) judgment, and deliver me and those who are with me of the believers.
Yusuf Ali: "Judge Thou, then, between me and them openly, and deliver me and those of the Believers who are with me."

Ayah: 119
Arabic: فَأَنجَيْنَاهُ وَمَن مَّعَهُ فِي الْفُلْكِ الْمَشْحُونِ
Pickthal: And We saved him and those with him in the laden ship.
Shakir: So We delivered him and those with him in the laden ark.
Yusuf Ali: So We delivered him and those with him, in the Ark filled (with all creatures).

Ayah: 120
Arabic: ثُمَّ أَغْرَقْنَا بَعْدُ الْبَاقِينَ
Pickthal: Then afterward We drowned the others.
Shakir: Then We drowned the rest afterwards
Yusuf Ali: Thereafter We drowned those who remained behind.

Ayah: 121
Arabic: إِنَّ فِي ذَلِكَ لَآيَةً وَمَا كَانَ أَكْثَرُهُم مُّؤْمِنِينَ
Pickthal: Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers.
Shakir: Most surely there is a sign in this, but most of them do not believe.
Yusuf Ali: Verily in this is a Sign: but most of them do not believe.

Ayah: 122
Arabic: وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَهُوَ الْعَزِيزُ الرَّحِيمُ
Pickthal: And lo, thy Lord, He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful.
Shakir: And most surely your Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful.
Yusuf Ali: And verily thy Lord is He, the Exalted in Might, Most Merciful.

Ayah: 123
Arabic: كَذَّبَتْ عَادٌ الْمُرْسَلِينَ
Pickthal: (The tribe of) A'ad denied the messengers (of Allah).
Shakir: Ad gave the lie to the messengers.
Yusuf Ali: The 'Ad (people) rejected the messengers.

Ayah: 124
Arabic: إِذْ قَالَ لَهُمْ أَخُوهُمْ هُودٌ أَلَا تَتَّقُونَ
Pickthal: When their brother Hud said unto them: Will ye not ward off (evil)?
Shakir: When their brother Hud said to them: Will you not guard (against evil)?
Yusuf Ali: Behold, their brother Hud said to them: "Will ye not fear (Allah)?

Ayah: 125
Arabic: إِنِّي لَكُمْ رَسُولٌ أَمِينٌ
Pickthal: Lo! I am a faithful messenger unto you,
Shakir: Surely I am a faithful messenger to you;
Yusuf Ali: "I am to you a messenger worthy of all trust:

Ayah: 126
Arabic: فَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُونِ
Pickthal: So keep your duty to Allah and obey me.
Shakir: Therefore guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me:
Yusuf Ali: "So fear Allah and obey me.

Ayah: 127
Arabic: وَمَا أَسْأَلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ أَجْرٍ إِنْ أَجْرِيَ إِلَّا عَلَى رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ
Pickthal: And I ask of you no wage therefor; my wage is the concern only of the Lord of the Worlds.
Shakir: And I do not ask you any reward for it; surely my reward is only with the Lord of the worlds
Yusuf Ali: "No reward do I ask of you for it: my reward is only from the Lord of the Worlds.

Ayah: 128
Arabic: أَتَبْنُونَ بِكُلِّ رِيعٍ آيَةً تَعْبَثُونَ
Pickthal: Build ye on every high place a monument for vain delight?
Shakir: Do you build on every height a monument? Vain is it that you do:
Yusuf Ali: "Do ye build a landmark on every high place to amuse yourselves?

Ayah: 129
Arabic: وَتَتَّخِذُونَ مَصَانِعَ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَخْلُدُونَ
Pickthal: And seek ye out strongholds, that haply ye may last for ever?
Shakir: And you make strong fortresses that perhaps you may
Yusuf Ali: "And do ye get for yourselves fine buildings in the hope of living therein (for ever)?

Ayah: 130
Arabic: وَإِذَا بَطَشْتُم بَطَشْتُمْ جَبَّارِينَ
Pickthal: And if ye seize by force, seize ye as tyrants?
Shakir: And when you lay hands (on men) you lay hands (like) tyrants;
Yusuf Ali: "And when ye exert your strong hand, do ye do it like men of absolute power?

Ayah: 131
Arabic: فَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُونِ
Pickthal: Rather keep your duty to Allah, and obey me.
Shakir: So guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me
Yusuf Ali: "Now fear Allah, and obey me.

Ayah: 132
Arabic: وَاتَّقُوا الَّذِي أَمَدَّكُم بِمَا تَعْلَمُونَ
Pickthal: Keep your duty toward Him Who hath aided you with (the good things) that ye know,
Shakir: And be careful of (your duty to) Him Who has given you abundance of what you know.
Yusuf Ali: "Yea, fear Him Who has bestowed on you freely all that ye know.

Ayah: 133
Arabic: أَمَدَّكُم بِأَنْعَامٍ وَبَنِينَ
Pickthal: Hath aided you with cattle and sons.
Shakir: He has given you abundance of cattle and children
Yusuf Ali: "Freely has He bestowed on you cattle and sons,-

Ayah: 134
Arabic: وَجَنَّاتٍ وَعُيُونٍ
Pickthal: And gardens and watersprings.
Shakir: And gardens and fountains;
Yusuf Ali: "And Gardens and Springs.

Ayah: 135
Arabic: إِنِّي أَخَافُ عَلَيْكُمْ عَذَابَ يَوْمٍ عَظِيمٍ
Pickthal: Lo! I fear for you the retribution of an awful day.
Shakir: Surely I fear for you the chastisement of a grievous day
Yusuf Ali: "Truly I fear for you the Penalty of a Great Day."

Ayah: 136
Arabic: قَالُوا سَوَاء عَلَيْنَا أَوَعَظْتَ أَمْ لَمْ تَكُن مِّنَ الْوَاعِظِينَ
Pickthal: They said: It is all one to us whether thou preachest or art not of those who preach;
Shakir: They said: It is the same to us whether you admonish or are not one of the admonishers
Yusuf Ali: They said: "It is the same to us whether thou admonish us or be not among (our) admonishers!

Ayah: 137
Arabic: إِنْ هَذَا إِلَّا خُلُقُ الْأَوَّلِينَ
Pickthal: This is but a fable of the men of old,
Shakir: This is naught but a custom of the ancients;
Yusuf Ali: "This is no other than a customary device of the ancients,

Ayah: 138
Arabic: وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمُعَذَّبِينَ
Pickthal: And we shall not be doomed.
Shakir: And we are not going to be punished.
Yusuf Ali: "And we are not the ones to receive Pains and Penalties!"

Ayah: 139
Arabic: فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَأَهْلَكْنَاهُمْ إِنَّ فِي ذَلِكَ لَآيَةً وَمَا كَانَ أَكْثَرُهُم مُّؤْمِنِينَ
Pickthal: And they denied him; therefor We destroyed them. Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers.
Shakir: So they gave him the lie, then We destroyed them. Most surely there is a sign in this, but most of them do not believe.
Yusuf Ali: So they rejected him, and We destroyed them. Verily in this is a Sign: but most of them do not believe.

Ayah: 140
Arabic: وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَهُوَ الْعَزِيزُ الرَّحِيمُ
Pickthal: And lo! thy Lord, He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful.
Shakir: And most surely your Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful.
Yusuf Ali: And verily thy Lord is He, the Exalted in Might, Most Merciful.

Ayah: 141
Arabic: كَذَّبَتْ ثَمُودُ الْمُرْسَلِينَ
Pickthal: (The tribe of) Thamud denied the messengers (of Allah)
Shakir: Samood gave the lie to the messengers
Yusuf Ali: The Thamud (people) rejected the messengers.

Ayah: 142
Arabic: إِذْ قَالَ لَهُمْ أَخُوهُمْ صَالِحٌ أَلَا تَتَّقُونَ
Pickthal: When their brother Salih said unto them: Will ye not ward off (evil)?
Shakir: When their brother Salih said to them: Will you not guard (against evil)?
Yusuf Ali: Behold, their brother Salih said to them: "Will you not fear (Allah)?

Ayah: 143
Arabic: إِنِّي لَكُمْ رَسُولٌ أَمِينٌ
Pickthal: Lo! I am a faithful messenger unto you,
Shakir: Surely I am a faithful messenger to you
Yusuf Ali: "I am to you a messenger worthy of all trust.

Ayah: 144
Arabic: فَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُونِ
Pickthal: So keep your duty to Allah and obey me.
Shakir: Therefore guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me:
Yusuf Ali: "So fear Allah, and obey me.

Ayah: 145
Arabic: وَمَا أَسْأَلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ أَجْرٍ إِنْ أَجْرِيَ إِلَّا عَلَى رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ

Arabic: أَتُتْرَكُونَ فِي مَا هَاهُنَا آمِنِينَ
Pickthal: Will ye be left secure in that which is here before us,
Shakir: Will you be left secure in what is here;
Yusuf Ali: "Will ye be left secure, in (the enjoyment of) all that ye have here?-

Ayah: 147
Arabic: فِي جَنَّاتٍ وَعُيُونٍ
Pickthal: In gardens and watersprings.
Shakir: In gardens and fountains,
Yusuf Ali: "Gardens and Springs,

Ayah: 148
Arabic: وَزُرُوعٍ وَنَخْلٍ طَلْعُهَا هَضِيمٌ
Pickthal: And tilled fields and heavy-sheathed palm-trees,
Shakir: And cornfields and palm-trees having fine spadices?
Yusuf Ali: "And corn-fields and date-palms with spathes near breaking (with the weight of fruit)?

Ayah: 149
Arabic: وَتَنْحِتُونَ مِنَ الْجِبَالِ بُيُوتًا فَارِهِينَ
Pickthal: Though ye hew out dwellings in the mountain, being skilful?
Shakir: And you hew houses out of the mountains exultingly;
Yusuf Ali: "And ye carve houses out of (rocky) mountains with great skill.

Ayah: 150
Arabic: فَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُونِ
Pickthal: Therefor keep your duty to Allah and obey me,
Shakir: Therefore guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me;
Yusuf Ali: "But fear Allah and obey me;

Ayah: 151
Arabic: وَلَا تُطِيعُوا أَمْرَ الْمُسْرِفِينَ
Pickthal: And obey not the command of the prodigal,
Shakir: And do not obey the bidding of the extravagant,
Yusuf Ali: "And follow not the bidding of those who are extravagant,-

Ayah: 152
Arabic: الَّذِينَ يُفْسِدُونَ فِي الْأَرْضِ وَلَا يُصْلِحُونَ
Pickthal: Who spread corruption in the earth, and reform not.
Shakir: Who make mischief in the land and do not act aright.
Yusuf Ali: "Who make mischief in the land, and mend not (their ways)."

Ayah: 153
Arabic: قَالُوا إِنَّمَا أَنتَ مِنَ الْمُسَحَّرِينَ
Pickthal: They said: Thou art but one of the bewitched;
Shakir: They said: You are only of the deluded ones;
Yusuf Ali: They said: "Thou art only one of those bewitched!

Ayah: 154
Arabic: مَا أَنتَ إِلَّا بَشَرٌ مِّثْلُنَا فَأْتِ بِآيَةٍ إِن كُنتَ مِنَ الصَّادِقِينَ
Pickthal: Thou art but a mortal like us. So bring some token if thou art of the truthful.
Shakir: You are naught but a mortal like ourselves; so bring a sign if you are one of the truthful.
Yusuf Ali: "Thou art no more than a mortal like us: then bring us a Sign, if thou tellest the truth!"

Ayah: 155
Arabic: قَالَ هَذِهِ نَاقَةٌ لَّهَا شِرْبٌ وَلَكُمْ شِرْبُ يَوْمٍ مَّعْلُومٍ
Pickthal: He said: (Behold) this she-camel. She hath the right to drink (at the well), and ye have the right to drink, (each) on an appointed day.
Shakir: He said: This is a she-camel; she shall have her portion of water, and you have your portion of water on an appointed time;
Yusuf Ali: He said: "Here is a she-camel: she has a right of watering, and ye have a right of watering, (severally) on a day appointed.

Ayah: 156
Arabic: وَلَا تَمَسُّوهَا بِسُوءٍ فَيَأْخُذَكُمْ عَذَابُ يَوْمٍ عَظِيمٍ
Pickthal: And touch her not with ill lest there come on you the retribution of an awful day.
Shakir: And do not touch her with evil, lest the punishment of a grievous day should overtake you.
Yusuf Ali: "Touch her not with harm, lest the Penalty of a Great Day seize you."

Ayah: 157
Arabic: فَعَقَرُوهَا فَأَصْبَحُوا نَادِمِينَ
Pickthal: But they hamstrung her, and then were penitent.
Shakir: But they hamstrung her, then regretted;
Yusuf Ali: But they ham-strung her: then did they become full of regrets.

Ayah: 158
Arabic: فَأَخَذَهُمُ الْعَذَابُ إِنَّ فِي ذَلِكَ لَآيَةً وَمَا كَانَ أَكْثَرُهُم مُّؤْمِنِينَ
Pickthal: So the retribution came on them. Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers.
Shakir: So the punishment overtook them. Most surely there is a sign in this, but most of them do not believe.
Yusuf Ali: But the Penalty seized them. Verily in this is a Sign: but most of them do not believe.

Ayah: 159
Arabic: وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَهُوَ الْعَزِيزُ الرَّحِيمُ
Pickthal: And lo! thy Lord! He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful.
Shakir: And most surely your Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful.
Yusuf Ali: And verily thy Lord is He, the Exalted in Might, Most Merciful.

Ayah: 160
Arabic: كَذَّبَتْ قَوْمُ لُوطٍ الْمُرْسَلِينَ
Pickthal: The folk of Lot denied the messengers (of Allah),
Shakir: The people of Lut gave the lie to the messengers.
Yusuf Ali: The people of Lut rejected the messengers.

Ayah: 161
Arabic: إِذْ قَالَ لَهُمْ أَخُوهُمْ لُوطٌ أَلَا تَتَّقُونَ
Pickthal: When their brother Lot said unto them: Will ye not ward off (evil)?
Shakir: When their brother Lut said to them: Will you not guard (against evil)?
Yusuf Ali: Behold, their brother Lut said to them: "Will ye not fear (Allah)?

Ayah: 162

Ayah: 165
Arabic: أَتَأْتُونَ الذُّكْرَانَ مِنَ الْعَالَمِينَ
Pickthal: What! Of all creatures do ye come unto the males,
Shakir: What! do you come to the males from among the creatures
Yusuf Ali: "Of all the creatures in the world, will ye approach males,

Ayah: 166
Arabic: وَتَذَرُونَ مَا خَلَقَ لَكُمْ رَبُّكُمْ مِنْ أَزْوَاجِكُم بَلْ أَنتُمْ قَوْمٌ عَادُونَ
Pickthal: And leave the wives your Lord created for you? Nay, but ye are froward folk.
Shakir: And leave what your Lord has created for you of your wives? Nay, you are a people exceeding limits.
Yusuf Ali: "And leave those whom Allah has created for you to be your mates? Nay, ye are a people transgressing (all limits)!"

Ayah: 167
Arabic: قَالُوا لَئِن لَّمْ تَنتَهِ يَا لُوطُ لَتَكُونَنَّ مِنَ الْمُخْرَجِينَ
Pickthal: They said: If thou cease not, O Lot, thou wilt soon be of the outcast.
Shakir: They said: If you desist not, O Lut! you shall surely be of those who are expelled.
Yusuf Ali: They said: "If thou desist not, O Lut! thou wilt assuredly be cast out!"

Ayah: 168
Arabic: قَالَ إِنِّي لِعَمَلِكُم مِّنَ الْقَالِينَ
Pickthal: He said: I am in truth of those who hate your conduct.
Shakir: He said: Surely I am of those who utterly abhor your
Yusuf Ali: He said: "I do detest your doings."

Ayah: 169
Arabic: رَبِّ نَجِّنِي وَأَهْلِي مِمَّا يَعْمَلُونَ
Pickthal: My Lord! Save me and my household from what they do.
Shakir: My Lord ! deliver me and my followers from what they do.
Yusuf Ali: "O my Lord! deliver me and my family from such things as they do!"

Ayah: 170
Arabic: فَنَجَّيْنَاهُ وَأَهْلَهُ أَجْمَعِينَ
Pickthal: So We saved him and his household, every one,
Shakir: So We delivered him and his followers all,
Yusuf Ali: So We delivered him and his family,- all

Ayah: 171
Arabic: إِلَّا عَجُوزًا فِي الْغَابِرِينَ
Pickthal: Save an old woman among those who stayed behind.
Shakir: Except an old woman, among those who remained behind.
Yusuf Ali: Except an old woman who lingered behind.

Ayah: 172
Arabic: ثُمَّ دَمَّرْنَا الْآخَرِينَ
Pickthal: Then afterward We destroyed the others.
Shakir: Then We utterly destroyed the others.
Yusuf Ali: But the rest We destroyed utterly.

Ayah: 173
Arabic: وَأَمْطَرْنَا عَلَيْهِم مَّطَرًا فَسَاء مَطَرُ الْمُنذَرِينَ
Pickthal: And We rained on them a rain. And dreadful is the rain of those who have been warned.
Shakir: And We rained down upon them a rain, and evil was the rain on those warned.
Yusuf Ali: We rained down on them a shower (of brimstone): and evil was the shower on those who were admonished (but heeded not)!

Ayah: 174
Arabic: إِنَّ فِي ذَلِكَ لَآيَةً وَمَا كَانَ أَكْثَرُهُم مُّؤْمِنِينَ
Pickthal: Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers.
Shakir: Most surely there is a sign in this, but most of them do not believe.
Yusuf Ali: Verily in this is a Sign: but most of them do not believe.

Ayah: 175
Arabic: وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَهُوَ الْعَزِيزُ الرَّحِيمُ
Pickthal: And lo! thy Lord, He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful.
Shakir: And most surely your Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful.
Yusuf Ali: And verily thy Lord is He, the Exalted in Might Most Merciful.

Ayah: 176
Arabic: كَذَّبَ أَصْحَابُ الْأَيْكَةِ الْمُرْسَلِينَ
Pickthal: The dwellers in the wood (of Midian) denied the messengers (of Allah),
Shakir: The dwellers of the thicket gave the lie to the messengers.
Yusuf Ali: The Companions of the Wood rejected the messengers.

Ayah: 177
Arabic: إِذْ قَالَ لَهُمْ شُعَيْبٌ أَلَا تَتَّقُونَ
Pickthal: When Shu'eyb said unto them: Will ye not ward off (evil)?
Shakir: When Shu'aib said to them: Will you not guard (against evil)?
Yusuf Ali: Behold, Shu'aib said to them: "Will ye not fear (Allah)?

Ayah: 178
Arabic: إِنِّي لَكُمْ رَسُولٌ أَمِينٌ
Pickthal: Lo! I am a faithful messenger unto you,
Shakir: Surely I am a faithful messenger to you;
Yusuf Ali: "I am to you a messenger worthy of all trust.

Ayah: 179
Arabic: فَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُونِ
Pickthal: So keep your duty to Allah and obey me.
Shakir: Therefore guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me:
Yusuf Ali: "So fear Allah and obey me.

Ayah: 180
Arabic: وَمَا أَسْأَلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ أَجْرٍ إِنْ أَجْرِيَ إِلَّا عَلَى رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ
Pickthal: And I ask of you no wage for it; my wage is the concern only of the Lord of the Worlds.
Shakir: And I do not ask you any reward for it, my reward is only with the Lord of the worlds;
Yusuf Ali: "No reward do I ask of you for it: my reward is only from the Lord of the Worlds.

Ayah: 181
Arabic: أَوْفُوا الْكَيْلَ وَلَا تَكُونُوا مِنَ الْمُخْسِرِينَ
Pickthal: Give full measure, and be not of those who give less (than the due).
Shakir: Give a full measure and be not of those who diminish;
Yusuf Ali: "Give just measure, and cause no loss (to others by fraud).

Ayah: 182
Arabic: وَزِنُوا بِالْقِسْطَاسِ الْمُسْتَقِيمِ
Pickthal: And weigh with the true balance.
Shakir: And weigh (things) with a right balance,
Yusuf Ali: "And weigh with scales true and upright.

Ayah: 183
Arabic: وَلَا تَبْخَسُوا النَّاسَ أَشْيَاءهُمْ وَلَا تَعْثَوْا فِي الْأَرْضِ مُفْسِدِينَ
Pickthal: Wrong not mankind in their goods, and do not evil, making mischief, in the earth.
Shakir: And do not wrong men of their things, and do not act corruptly in the earth, making mischief.
Yusuf Ali: "And withhold not things justly due to men, nor do evil in the land, working mischief.

Ayah: 184
Arabic: وَاتَّقُوا الَّذِي خَلَقَكُمْ وَالْجِبِلَّةَ الْأَوَّلِينَ
Pickthal: And keep your duty unto Him Who created you and the generations of the men of old.
Shakir: And guard against (the punishment of) Him who created you and the former nations.
Yusuf Ali: "And fear Him Who created you and (who created) the generations before (you)"

Ayah: 185
Arabic: قَالُوا إِنَّمَا أَنتَ مِنَ الْمُسَحَّرِينَ
Pickthal: They said: Thou art but one of the bewitched;
Shakir: They said: You are only of those deluded;
Yusuf Ali: They said: "Thou art only one of those bewitched!

Ayah: 186
Arabic: وَمَا أَنتَ إِلَّا بَشَرٌ مِّثْلُنَا وَإِن نَّظُنُّكَ لَمِنَ الْكَاذِبِينَ
Pickthal: Thou art but a mortal like us, and lo! we deem thee of the liars.
Shakir: And you are naught but a mortal like ourselves, and we know you to be certainly of the liars.
Yusuf Ali: "Thou art no more than a mortal like us, and indeed we think thou art a liar!

Ayah: 187
Arabic: فَأَسْقِطْ عَلَيْنَا كِسَفًا مِّنَ السَّمَاء إِن كُنتَ مِنَ الصَّادِقِينَ
Pickthal: Then make fragments of the heaven fall upon us, if thou art of the truthful.
Shakir: Therefore cause a portion of the heaven to come down upon us, if you are one of the truthful.
Yusuf Ali: "Now cause a piece of the sky to fall on us, if thou art truthful!"

Ayah: 188
Arabic: قَالَ رَبِّي أَعْلَمُ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ
Pickthal: He said: My Lord is Best Aware of what ye do.
Shakir: He said: My Lord knows best what you do.
Yusuf Ali: He said: "My Lord knows best what ye do."

Ayah: 189
Arabic: فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَأَخَذَهُمْ عَذَابُ يَوْمِ الظُّلَّةِ إِنَّهُ كَانَ عَذَابَ يَوْمٍ عَظِيمٍ
Pickthal: But they denied him, so there came on them the retribution of the day of gloom. Lo! it was the retribution of an awful day.
Shakir: But they called him a liar, so the punishment of the day of covering overtook them; surely it was the punishment of a grievous day.
Yusuf Ali: But they rejected him. Then the punishment of a day of overshadowing gloom seized them, and that was the Penalty of a Great Day.

Ayah: 190
Arabic: إِنَّ فِي ذَلِكَ لَآيَةً وَمَا كَانَ أَكْثَرُهُم مُّؤْمِنِينَ
Pickthal: Lo! herein is indeed a portent; yet most of them are not believers.
Shakir: Most surely there is a sign in this, but most of them do not believe.
Yusuf Ali: Verily in that is a Sign: but most of them do not believe.

Ayah: 191
Arabic: وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَهُوَ الْعَزِيزُ الرَّحِيمُ
Pickthal: And lo! thy Lord! He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful.
Shakir: And most surely your Lord is Mighty, the Merciful.
Yusuf Ali: And verily thy Lord is He, the Exalted in Might, Most Merciful.

Ayah: 192
Arabic: وَإِنَّهُ لَتَنزِيلُ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ
Pickthal: And lo! it is a revelation of the Lord of the Worlds,
Shakir: And most surely this is a revelation from the Lord of the worlds.
Yusuf Ali: Verily this is a Revelation from the Lord of the Worlds:

Ayah: 193
Arabic: نَزَلَ بِهِ الرُّوحُ الْأَمِينُ
Pickthal: Which the True Spirit hath brought down
Shakir: The Faithful Spirit has descended with it,
Yusuf Ali: With it came down the spirit of Faith and Truth-

Ayah: 194
Arabic: عَلَى قَلْبِكَ لِتَكُونَ مِنَ الْمُنذِرِينَ
Pickthal: Upon thy heart, that thou mayst be (one) of the warners,
Shakir: Upon your heart that you may be of the warners
Yusuf Ali: To thy heart and mind, that thou mayest admonish.

Ayah: 195
Arabic: بِلِسَانٍ عَرَبِيٍّ مُّبِينٍ
Pickthal: In plain Arabic speech.
Shakir: In plain Arabic language.
Yusuf Ali: In the perspicuous Arabic tongue.

Ayah: 196
Arabic: وَإِنَّهُ لَفِي زُبُرِ الْأَوَّلِينَ
Pickthal: And lo! it is in the Scriptures of the men of old.
Shakir: And most surely the same is in the scriptures of the ancients.
Yusuf Ali: Without doubt it is (announced) in the mystic Books of former peoples.

Ayah: 197
Arabic: أَوَلَمْ يَكُن لَّهُمْ آيَةً أَن يَعْلَمَهُ عُلَمَاء بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ
Pickthal: Is it not a token for them that the doctors of the Children of Israel know it?
Shakir: Is it not a sign to them that the learned men of the Israelites know it?
Yusuf Ali: Is it not a Sign to them that the Learned of the Children of Israel knew it (as true)?

Ayah: 198
Arabic: وَلَوْ نَزَّلْنَاهُ عَلَى بَعْضِ الْأَعْجَمِينَ
Pickthal: And if We had revealed it unto one of any other nation than the Arabs,
Shakir: And if we had revealed it to any of the foreigners
Yusuf Ali: Had We revealed it to any of the non-Arabs,

Ayah: 199
Arabic: فَقَرَأَهُ عَلَيْهِم مَّا كَانُوا بِهِ مُؤْمِنِينَ
Pickthal: And he had read it unto them, they would not have believed in it.
Shakir: So that he should have recited it to them, they would not have believed therein.
Yusuf Ali: And had he recited it to them, they would not have believed in it.

Ayah: 200
Arabic: كَذَلِكَ سَلَكْنَاهُ فِي قُلُوبِ الْمُجْرِمِينَ
Pickthal: Thus do We make it traverse the hearts of the guilty.
Shakir: Thus have We caused it to enter into the hearts of the guilty.
Yusuf Ali: Thus have We caused it to enter the hearts of the sinners.

Ayah: 201
Arabic: لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِهِ حَتَّى يَرَوُا الْعَذَابَ الْأَلِيمَ
Pickthal: They will not believe in it till they behold the painful doom,
Shakir: They will not believe in it until they see the painful punishment.
Yusuf Ali: They will not believe in it until they see the grievous Penalty;

Ayah: 202
Arabic: فَيَأْتِيَهُم بَغْتَةً وَهُمْ لَا يَشْعُرُونَ
Pickthal: So that it will come upon them suddenly, when they perceive not.
Shakir: And it shall come to them all of a sudden, while they shall not perceive;
Yusuf Ali: But the (Penalty) will come to them of a sudden, while they perceive it not;

Ayah: 203
Arabic: فَيَقُولُوا هَلْ نَحْنُ مُنظَرُونَ
Pickthal: Then they will say: Are we to be reprieved?
Shakir: Then they will say: Shall we be respited?
Yusuf Ali: Then they will say: "Shall we be respited?"

Ayah: 204
Arabic: أَفَبِعَذَابِنَا يَسْتَعْجِلُونَ
Pickthal: Would they (now) hasten on Our doom?
Shakir: What! do they still seek to hasten on Our punishment?
Yusuf Ali: Do they then ask for Our Penalty to be hastened on?

Ayah: 205
Arabic: أَفَرَأَيْتَ إِن مَّتَّعْنَاهُمْ سِنِينَ
Pickthal: Hast thou then seen, if We content them for (long) years,
Shakir: Have you then considered if We let them enjoy themselves for years,
Yusuf Ali: Seest thou? If We do let them enjoy (this life) for a few years,

Ayah: 206
Arabic: ثُمَّ جَاءهُم مَّا كَانُوا يُوعَدُونَ
Pickthal: And then cometh that which they were promised,
Shakir: Then there comes to them that with which they are threatened,
Yusuf Ali: Yet there comes to them at length the (Punishment) which they were promised!

Ayah: 207
Arabic: مَا أَغْنَى عَنْهُم مَّا كَانُوا يُمَتَّعُونَ
Pickthal: (How) that wherewith they were contented naught availeth them?
Shakir: That which they were made to enjoy shall not avail them?
Yusuf Ali: It will profit them not that they enjoyed (this life)!

Ayah: 208
Arabic: وَمَا أَهْلَكْنَا مِن قَرْيَةٍ إِلَّا لَهَا مُنذِرُونَ
Pickthal: And We destroyed no township but it had its warners
Shakir: And We did not destroy any town but it had (its) warners,
Yusuf Ali: Never did We destroy a population, but had its warners -

Ayah: 209
Arabic: ذِكْرَى وَمَا كُنَّا ظَالِمِينَ
Pickthal: For reminder, for We never were oppressors.
Shakir: To remind, and We are never unjust.
Yusuf Ali: By way of reminder; and We never are unjust.

Ayah: 210
Arabic: وَمَا تَنَزَّلَتْ بِهِ الشَّيَاطِينُ
Pickthal: The devils did not bring it down.
Shakir: And the Shaitans have not come down with it.
Yusuf Ali: No evil ones have brought down this (Revelation):

Ayah: 211
Arabic: وَمَا يَنبَغِي لَهُمْ وَمَا يَسْتَطِيعُونَ
Pickthal: It is not meet for them, nor is it in their power,
Shakir: And it behoves them not, and they have not the power to do (it).
Yusuf Ali: It would neither suit them nor would they be able (to produce it).

Ayah: 212
Arabic: إِنَّهُمْ عَنِ السَّمْعِ لَمَعْزُولُونَ
Pickthal: Lo! verily they are banished from the hearing.
Shakir: Most surely they are far removed from the hearing of it.
Yusuf Ali: Indeed they have been removed far from even (a chance of) hearing it.

Ayah: 213
Arabic: فَلَا تَدْعُ مَعَ اللَّهِ إِلَهًا آخَرَ فَتَكُونَ مِنَ الْمُعَذَّبِينَ
Pickthal: Therefor invoke not with Allah another god, lest thou be one of the doomed.
Shakir: So call not upon another god with Allah, lest you be of those who are punished.
Yusuf Ali: So call not on any other god with Allah, or thou wilt be among those under the Penalty.

Ayah: 214
Arabic: وَأَنذِرْ عَشِيرَتَكَ الْأَقْرَبِينَ
Pickthal: And warn thy tribe of near kindred,
Shakir: And warn your nearest relations,
Yusuf Ali: And admonish thy nearest kinsmen,

Ayah: 215
Arabic: وَاخْفِضْ جَنَاحَكَ لِمَنِ اتَّبَعَكَ مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ
Pickthal: And lower thy wing (in kindness) unto those believers who follow thee.
Shakir: And be kind to him who follows you of the believers.
Yusuf Ali: And lower thy wing to the Believers who follow thee.

Ayah: 216
Arabic: فَإِنْ عَصَوْكَ فَقُلْ إِنِّي بَرِيءٌ مِّمَّا تَعْمَلُونَ
Pickthal: And if they (thy kinsfolk) disobey thee, say: Lo! I am innocent of what they do.
Shakir: But if they disobey you, then say: Surely I am clear of what you do.
Yusuf Ali: Then if they disobey thee, say: "I am free (of responsibility) for what ye do!"

Ayah: 217
Arabic: وَتَوَكَّلْ عَلَى الْعَزِيزِ الرَّحِيمِ
Pickthal: And put thy trust in the Mighty, the Merciful.
Shakir: And rely on the Mighty, the Merciful,
Yusuf Ali: And put thy trust on the Exalted in Might, the Merciful,-

Ayah: 218
Arabic: الَّذِي يَرَاكَ حِينَ تَقُومُ
Pickthal: Who seeth thee when thou standest up (to pray)
Shakir: Who sees you when you stand up.
Yusuf Ali: Who seeth thee standing forth (in prayer),

Ayah: 219
Arabic: وَتَقَلُّبَكَ فِي السَّاجِدِينَ
Pickthal: And (seeth) thine abasement among those who fall prostrate (in worship).
Shakir: And your turning over and over among those who prostrate themselves before Allah.
Yusuf Ali: And thy movements among those who prostrate themselves,

Ayah: 220
Arabic: إِنَّهُ هُوَ السَّمِيعُ الْعَلِيمُ
Pickthal: Lo! He, only He, is the Hearer, the Knower.
Shakir: Surely He is the Hearing, the Knowing.
Yusuf Ali: For it is He Who heareth and knoweth all things.

Ayah: 221
Arabic: هَلْ أُنَبِّئُكُمْ عَلَى مَن تَنَزَّلُ الشَّيَاطِينُ
Pickthal: Shall I inform you upon whom the devils descend?
Shakir: Shall I inform you (of him) upon whom the Shaitans descend?
Yusuf Ali: Shall I inform you, (O people!), on whom it is that the evil ones descend?

Ayah: 222
Arabic: تَنَزَّلُ عَلَى كُلِّ أَفَّاكٍ أَثِيمٍ
Pickthal: They descend on every sinful, false one.
Shakir: They descend upon every lying, sinful one,
Yusuf Ali: They descend on every lying, wicked person,

Ayah: 223
Arabic: يُلْقُونَ السَّمْعَ وَأَكْثَرُهُمْ كَاذِبُونَ
Pickthal: They listen eagerly, but most of them are liars.
Shakir: They incline their ears, and most of them are liars.
Yusuf Ali: (Into whose ears) they pour hearsay vanities, and most of them are liars.

Ayah: 224
Arabic: وَالشُّعَرَاء يَتَّبِعُهُمُ الْغَاوُونَ
Pickthal: As for poets, the erring follow them.
Shakir: And as to the poets, those who go astray follow them.
Yusuf Ali: And the Poets,- It is those straying in Evil, who follow them:

Ayah: 225
Arabic: أَلَمْ تَرَ أَنَّهُمْ فِي كُلِّ وَادٍ يَهِيمُونَ
Pickthal: Hast thou not seen how they stray in every valley,
Shakir: Do you not see that they wander about bewildered in every valley?
Yusuf Ali: Seest thou not that they wander distracted in every valley?-

Ayah: 226
Arabic: وَأَنَّهُمْ يَقُولُونَ مَا لَا يَفْعَلُونَ
Pickthal: And how they say that which they do not?
Shakir: And that they say that which they do not do,
Yusuf Ali: And that they say what they practise not?-

Ayah: 227
Arabic: إِلَّا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ وَذَكَرُوا اللَّهَ كَثِيرًا وَانتَصَرُوا مِن بَعْدِ مَا ظُلِمُوا وَسَيَعْلَمُ الَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا أَيَّ مُنقَلَبٍ يَنقَلِبُونَ
Pickthal: Save those who believe and do good works, and remember Allah much, and vindicate themselves after they have been wronged. Those who dowrong will come to know by what a (great) reverse they will be overturned!
Shakir: Except those who believe and do good and remember Allah much, and defend themselves after they are oppressed; and they who act unjustly shall know to what final place of turning they shall turn back.
Yusuf Ali: Except those who believe, work righteousness, engage much in the remembrance of Allah, and defend themselves only after they are unjustlyattacked. And soon will the unjust assailants know what vicissitudes theiraffairs will take!
