Surah Al-Qamar (the moon)

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful.
Total Verses : 55 - Listen to Recitation of this Surah with Translation

Ayah: 1
Arabic:	اقْتَرَبَتِ السَّاعَةُ وَانشَقَّ الْقَمَرُ
Yusuf Ali:	The Hour (of Judgment) is nigh, and the moon is cleft asunder.

Ayah: 2
Arabic:	وَإِن يَرَوْا آيَةً يُعْرِضُوا وَيَقُولُوا سِحْرٌ مُّسْتَمِرٌّ
Yusuf Ali:	But if they see a Sign, they turn away, and say, "This is (but) transient magic."

Ayah: 3
Arabic:	وَكَذَّبُوا وَاتَّبَعُوا أَهْوَاءهُمْ وَكُلُّ أَمْرٍ مُّسْتَقِرٌّ
Yusuf Ali:	They reject (the warning) and follow their (own) lusts but every matter has its appointed time.

Ayah: 4
Arabic:	وَلَقَدْ جَاءهُم مِّنَ الْأَنبَاء مَا فِيهِ مُزْدَجَرٌ
Yusuf Ali:	There have already come to them Recitals wherein there is (enough) to check (them),

Ayah: 5
Arabic:	حِكْمَةٌ بَالِغَةٌ فَمَا تُغْنِ النُّذُرُ
Yusuf Ali:	Mature wisdom;- but (the preaching of) Warners profits them not.

Ayah: 6
Arabic:	فَتَوَلَّ عَنْهُمْ يَوْمَ يَدْعُ الدَّاعِ إِلَى شَيْءٍ نُّكُرٍ
Yusuf Ali:	Therefore, (O Prophet,) turn away from them. The Day that the Caller will call (them) to a terrible affair,

Ayah: 7
Arabic:	خُشَّعًا أَبْصَارُهُمْ يَخْرُجُونَ مِنَ الْأَجْدَاثِ كَأَنَّهُمْ جَرَادٌ مُّنتَشِرٌ
Yusuf Ali:	They will come forth,- their eyes humbled - from (their) graves, (torpid) like locusts scattered abroad,

Ayah: 8
Arabic:	مُّهْطِعِينَ إِلَى الدَّاعِ يَقُولُ الْكَافِرُونَ هَذَا يَوْمٌ عَسِرٌ
Yusuf Ali:	Hastening, with eyes transfixed, towards the Caller!- "Hard is this Day!", the Unbelievers will say.

Ayah: 9
Arabic:	كَذَّبَتْ قَبْلَهُمْ قَوْمُ نُوحٍ فَكَذَّبُوا عَبْدَنَا وَقَالُوا مَجْنُونٌ وَازْدُجِرَ
Yusuf Ali:	Before them the People of Noah rejected (their messenger): they rejected Our servant, and said, "Here is one possessed!", and he was drivenout.

Ayah: 10
Arabic:	فَدَعَا رَبَّهُ أَنِّي مَغْلُوبٌ فَانتَصِرْ
Yusuf Ali:	Then he called on his Lord: "I am one overcome: do Thou then help (me)!"

Ayah: 11
Arabic:	فَفَتَحْنَا أَبْوَابَ السَّمَاء بِمَاء مُّنْهَمِرٍ
Yusuf Ali:	So We opened the gates of heaven, with water pouring forth.

Ayah: 12
Arabic:	وَفَجَّرْنَا الْأَرْضَ عُيُونًا فَالْتَقَى الْمَاء عَلَى أَمْرٍ قَدْ قُدِرَ
Yusuf Ali:	And We caused the earth to gush forth with springs, so the waters met (and rose) to the extent decreed.

Ayah: 13
Arabic:	وَحَمَلْنَاهُ عَلَى ذَاتِ أَلْوَاحٍ وَدُسُرٍ
Yusuf Ali:	But We bore him on an (Ark) made of broad planks and caulked with palm-fibre:

Ayah: 14
Arabic:	تَجْرِي بِأَعْيُنِنَا جَزَاء لِّمَن كَانَ كُفِرَ
Yusuf Ali:	She floats under our eyes (and care): a recompense to one who had been rejected (with scorn)!

Ayah: 15
Arabic:	وَلَقَد تَّرَكْنَاهَا آيَةً فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍ
Yusuf Ali:	And We have left this as a Sign (for all time): then is there any that will receive admonition?

Ayah: 16
Arabic:	فَكَيْفَ كَانَ عَذَابِي وَنُذُرِ
Yusuf Ali:	But how (terrible) was My Penalty and My Warning?

Ayah: 17
Arabic:	وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا الْقُرْآنَ لِلذِّكْرِ فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍ
Yusuf Ali:	And We have indeed made the Qur'an easy to understand and remember: then is there any that will receive admonition?

Ayah: 18
Arabic:	كَذَّبَتْ عَادٌ فَكَيْفَ كَانَ عَذَابِي وَنُذُرِ
Yusuf Ali:	The 'Ad (people) (too) rejected (Truth): then how terrible was My Penalty and My Warning?

Ayah: 19
Arabic:	إِنَّا أَرْسَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ رِيحًا صَرْصَرًا فِي يَوْمِ نَحْسٍ مُّسْتَمِرٍّ
Yusuf Ali:	For We sent against them a furious wind, on a Day of violent Disaster,

Ayah: 20
Arabic:	تَنزِعُ النَّاسَ كَأَنَّهُمْ أَعْجَازُ نَخْلٍ مُّنقَعِرٍ
Yusuf Ali:	Plucking out men as if they were roots of palm-trees torn up (from the ground).

Ayah: 21
Arabic:	فَكَيْفَ كَانَ عَذَابِي وَنُذُرِ
Yusuf Ali:	Yea, how (terrible) was My Penalty and My Warning!

Ayah: 22
Arabic:	وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا الْقُرْآنَ لِلذِّكْرِ فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍ
Yusuf Ali:	But We have indeed made the Qur'an easy to understand and remember: then is there any that will receive admonition?

Ayah: 23
Arabic:	كَذَّبَتْ ثَمُودُ بِالنُّذُرِ
Yusuf Ali:	The Thamud (also) rejected (their) Warners.

Ayah: 24
Arabic:	فَقَالُوا أَبَشَرًا مِّنَّا وَاحِدًا نَّتَّبِعُهُ إِنَّا إِذًا لَّفِي ضَلَالٍ وَسُعُرٍ
Yusuf Ali:	For they said: "What! a man! a Solitary one from among ourselves! shall we follow such a one? Truly should we then be straying inmind, and mad!

Ayah: 25
Arabic:	أَؤُلْقِيَ الذِّكْرُ عَلَيْهِ مِن بَيْنِنَا بَلْ هُوَ كَذَّابٌ أَشِرٌ
Yusuf Ali:	"Is it that the Message is sent to him, of all people amongst us? Nay, he is a liar, an insolent one!"

Ayah: 26
Arabic:	سَيَعْلَمُونَ غَدًا مَّنِ الْكَذَّابُ الْأَشِرُ
Yusuf Ali:	Ah! they will know on the morrow, which is the liar, the insolent one!

Ayah: 27
Arabic:	إِنَّا مُرْسِلُو النَّاقَةِ فِتْنَةً لَّهُمْ فَارْتَقِبْهُمْ وَاصْطَبِرْ
Yusuf Ali:	For We will send the she-camel by way of trial for them. So watch them, (O Salih), and possess thyself in patience!

Ayah: 28
Arabic:	وَنَبِّئْهُمْ أَنَّ الْمَاء قِسْمَةٌ بَيْنَهُمْ كُلُّ شِرْبٍ مُّحْتَضَرٌ
Yusuf Ali:	And tell them that the water is to be divided between them: Each one's right to drink being brought forward (by suitable turns).

Ayah: 29
Arabic:	فَنَادَوْا صَاحِبَهُمْ فَتَعَاطَى فَعَقَرَ
Yusuf Ali:	But they called to their companion, and he took a sword in hand, and hamstrung (her).

Ayah: 30
Arabic:	فَكَيْفَ كَانَ عَذَابِي وَنُذُرِ
Yusuf Ali:	Ah! how (terrible) was My Penalty and My Warning!

Ayah: 31
Arabic:	إِنَّا أَرْسَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ صَيْحَةً وَاحِدَةً فَكَانُوا كَهَشِيمِ الْمُحْتَظِرِ
Yusuf Ali:	For We sent against them a single Mighty Blast, and they became like the dry stubble used by one who pens cattle.

Ayah: 32
Arabic:	وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا الْقُرْآنَ لِلذِّكْرِ فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍ
Yusuf Ali:	And We have indeed made the Qur'an easy to understand and remember: then is there any that will receive admonition?

Ayah: 33
Arabic:	كَذَّبَتْ قَوْمُ لُوطٍ بِالنُّذُرِ
Yusuf Ali:	The people of Lut rejected (his) warning.

Ayah: 34
Arabic:	إِنَّا أَرْسَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ حَاصِبًا إِلَّا آلَ لُوطٍ نَّجَّيْنَاهُم بِسَحَرٍ
Yusuf Ali:	We sent against them a violent Tornado with showers of stones, (which destroyed them), except Lut's household: them We delivered by earlyDawn,-

Ayah: 35
Arabic:	نِعْمَةً مِّنْ عِندِنَا كَذَلِكَ نَجْزِي مَن شَكَرَ
Yusuf Ali:	As a Grace from Us: thus do We reward those who give thanks.

Ayah: 36
Arabic:	وَلَقَدْ أَنذَرَهُم بَطْشَتَنَا فَتَمَارَوْا بِالنُّذُرِ
Yusuf Ali:	And (Lut) did warn them of Our Punishment, but they disputed about the Warning.

Ayah: 37
Arabic:	وَلَقَدْ رَاوَدُوهُ عَن ضَيْفِهِ فَطَمَسْنَا أَعْيُنَهُمْ فَذُوقُوا عَذَابِي وَنُذُرِ
Yusuf Ali:	And they even sought to snatch away his guests from him, but We blinded their eyes. (They heard:) "Now taste ye My Wrath and MyWarning."

Ayah: 38
Arabic:	وَلَقَدْ صَبَّحَهُم بُكْرَةً عَذَابٌ مُّسْتَقِرٌّ
Yusuf Ali:	Early on the morrow an abiding Punishment seized them:

Ayah: 39
Arabic:	فَذُوقُوا عَذَابِي وَنُذُرِ
Yusuf Ali:	"So taste ye My Wrath and My Warning."

Ayah: 40
Arabic:	وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا الْقُرْآنَ لِلذِّكْرِ فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍ
Yusuf Ali:	And We have indeed made the Qur'an easy to understand and remember: then is there any that will receive admonition?

Ayah: 41
Arabic:	وَلَقَدْ جَاء آلَ فِرْعَوْنَ النُّذُرُ
Yusuf Ali:	To the People of Pharaoh, too, aforetime, came Warners (from Allah).

Ayah: 42
Arabic:	كَذَّبُوا بِآيَاتِنَا كُلِّهَا فَأَخَذْنَاهُمْ أَخْذَ عَزِيزٍ مُّقْتَدِرٍ
Yusuf Ali:	The (people) rejected all Our Signs; but We seized them with such Penalty (as comes) from One Exalted in Power, able to carry out HisWill.

Ayah: 43
Arabic:	أَكُفَّارُكُمْ خَيْرٌ مِّنْ أُوْلَئِكُمْ أَمْ لَكُم بَرَاءةٌ فِي الزُّبُرِ
Yusuf Ali:	Are your Unbelievers, (O Quraish), better than they? Or have ye an immunity in the Sacred Books?

Ayah: 44
Arabic:	أَمْ يَقُولُونَ نَحْنُ جَمِيعٌ مُّنتَصِرٌ
Yusuf Ali:	Or do they say: "We acting together can defend ourselves"?

Ayah: 45
Arabic:	سَيُهْزَمُ الْجَمْعُ وَيُوَلُّونَ الدُّبُرَ
Yusuf Ali:	Soon will their multitude be put to flight, and they will show their backs.

Ayah: 46
Arabic:	بَلِ السَّاعَةُ مَوْعِدُهُمْ وَالسَّاعَةُ أَدْهَى وَأَمَرُّ
Yusuf Ali:	Nay, the Hour (of Judgment) is the time promised them (for their full recompense): And that Hour will be most grievous and mostbitter.

Ayah: 47
Arabic:	إِنَّ الْمُجْرِمِينَ فِي ضَلَالٍ وَسُعُرٍ
Yusuf Ali:	Truly those in sin are the ones straying in mind, and mad.

Ayah: 48
Arabic:	يَوْمَ يُسْحَبُونَ فِي النَّارِ عَلَى وُجُوهِهِمْ ذُوقُوا مَسَّ سَقَرَ
Yusuf Ali:	The Day they will be dragged through the Fire on their faces, (they will hear:) "Taste ye the touch of Hell!"

Ayah: 49
Arabic:	إِنَّا كُلَّ شَيْءٍ خَلَقْنَاهُ بِقَدَرٍ
Yusuf Ali:	Verily, all things have We created in proportion and measure.

Ayah: 50
Arabic:	وَمَا أَمْرُنَا إِلَّا وَاحِدَةٌ كَلَمْحٍ بِالْبَصَرِ
Yusuf Ali:	And Our Command is but a single (Act),- like the twinkling of an eye.

Ayah: 51
Arabic:	وَلَقَدْ أَهْلَكْنَا أَشْيَاعَكُمْ فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍ
Yusuf Ali:	And (oft) in the past, have We destroyed gangs like unto you: then is there any that will receive admonition?

Ayah: 52
Arabic:	وَكُلُّ شَيْءٍ فَعَلُوهُ فِي الزُّبُرِ
Yusuf Ali:	All that they do is noted in (their) Books (of Deeds):

Ayah: 53
Arabic:	وَكُلُّ صَغِيرٍ وَكَبِيرٍ مُسْتَطَرٌ
Yusuf Ali:	Every matter, small and great, is on record.

Ayah: 54
Arabic:	إِنَّ الْمُتَّقِينَ فِي جَنَّاتٍ وَنَهَرٍ
Yusuf Ali:	As to the Righteous, they will be in the midst of Gardens and Rivers,

Ayah: 55
Arabic:	فِي مَقْعَدِ صِدْقٍ عِندَ مَلِيكٍ مُّقْتَدِرٍ
Yusuf Ali:	In an Assembly of Truth, in the Presence of a Sovereign Omnipotent.
