In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful.

Ayah: 1 |

Arabic: |
إِذَا
الشَّمْسُ
كُوِّرَتْ
|
Pickthal: |
When the sun is overthrown, |
Shakir: |
When the sun is covered, |
Yusuf Ali: |
When the sun (with its spacious light) is folded up; |
Ayah: 2 |
|
Arabic: |
وَإِذَا
النُّجُومُ
انكَدَرَتْ
|
Pickthal: |
And when the stars fall, |
Shakir: |
And when the stars darken, |
Yusuf Ali: |
When the stars fall, losing their lustre; |
Ayah: 3 |
|
Arabic: |
وَإِذَا
الْجِبَالُ
سُيِّرَتْ
|
Pickthal: |
And when the hills are moved, |
Shakir: |
And when the mountains are made to pass away, |
Yusuf Ali: |
When the mountains vanish (like a mirage); |
Ayah: 4 |
|
Arabic: |
وَإِذَا
الْعِشَارُ
عُطِّلَتْ
|
Pickthal: |
And when the camels big with young are abandoned, |
Shakir: |
And when the camels are left untended, |
Yusuf Ali: |
When the she-camels, ten months with young, are left untended; |
Ayah: 5 |

وَإِذَا
الْوُحُوشُ
حُشِرَتْ
|
Pickthal: |
And when the wild beasts are herded together, |
Shakir: |
And when the wild animals are made to go forth, |
Yusuf Ali: |
When the wild beasts are herded together (in the human habitations); |
Ayah: 6 |

وَإِذَا
الْبِحَارُ
سُجِّرَتْ
|
Pickthal: |
And when the seas rise, |
Shakir: |
And when the seas are set on fire, |
Yusuf Ali: |
When the oceans boil over with a swell; |
Ayah: 7 |
|
Arabic: |
وَإِذَا
النُّفُوسُ
زُوِّجَتْ
|
Pickthal: |
And when souls are reunited, |
Shakir: |
And when souls are united, |
Yusuf Ali: |
When the souls are sorted out, (being joined, like with like); |
Ayah: 8 |

Arabic: |
وَإِذَا
الْمَوْؤُودَةُ
سُئِلَتْ
|
Pickthal: |
And when the girl-child that was buried alive is asked |
Shakir: |
And when the female infant buried alive is asked |
Yusuf Ali: |
When the female (infant), buried alive, is questioned - |
Ayah: 9 |

Arabic: |
بِأَيِّ
ذَنبٍ
قُتِلَتْ
|
Pickthal: |
For what sin she was slain, |
Shakir: |
For what sin she was killed, |
Yusuf Ali: |
For what crime she was killed; |
Ayah: 10 |
|
Arabic: |
وَإِذَا
الصُّحُفُ
نُشِرَتْ
|
Pickthal: |
And when the pages are laid open, |
Shakir: |
And when the books are spread, |
Yusuf Ali: |
When the scrolls are laid open; |
Ayah: 11 |

Arabic: |
وَإِذَا
السَّمَاء
كُشِطَتْ
|
Pickthal: |
And when the sky is torn away, |
Shakir: |
And when the heaven has its covering removed, |
Yusuf Ali: |
When the world on High is unveiled; |
Ayah: 12 |
|
Arabic: |
وَإِذَا
الْجَحِيمُ
سُعِّرَتْ
|
Pickthal: |
And when hell is lighted, |
Shakir: |
And when the hell is kindled up, |
Yusuf Ali: |
When the Blazing Fire is kindled to fierce heat; |
Ayah: 13 |

Arabic: |
وَإِذَا
الْجَنَّةُ
أُزْلِفَتْ
|
Pickthal: |
And when the Garden is brought nigh, |
Shakir: |
And when the garden is brought nigh, |
Yusuf Ali: |
And when the Garden is brought near;- |
Ayah: 14 |

Arabic: |
عَلِمَتْ
نَفْسٌ
مَّا
أَحْضَرَتْ
|
Pickthal: |
(Then) every soul will know what it hath made ready. |
Shakir: |
Every soul shall (then) know what it has prepared. |
Yusuf Ali: |
(Then) shall each soul know what it has put forward. |
Ayah: 15 |
|
Arabic: |
فَلَا
أُقْسِمُ
بِالْخُنَّسِ
|
Pickthal: |
Oh, but I call to witness the planets, |
Shakir: |
But nay! I swear by the stars, |
Yusuf Ali: |
So verily I call to witness the planets - that recede, |
Ayah: 16 |

Arabic: |
الْجَوَارِ
الْكُنَّسِ
|
Pickthal: |
The stars which rise and set, |
Shakir: |
That run their course (and) hide themselves, |
Yusuf Ali: |
Go straight, or hide; |
Ayah: 17 |
|
Arabic: |
وَاللَّيْلِ
إِذَا
عَسْعَسَ
|
Pickthal: |
And the close of night, |
Shakir: |
And the night when it departs, |
Yusuf Ali: |
And the Night as it dissipates; |
Ayah: 18 |
|
Arabic: |
وَالصُّبْحِ
إِذَا
تَنَفَّسَ
|
Pickthal: |
And the breath of morning |
Shakir: |
And the morning when it brightens, |
Yusuf Ali: |
And the Dawn as it breathes away the darkness;- |
Ayah: 19 |
|
Arabic: |
إِنَّهُ
لَقَوْلُ
رَسُولٍ
كَرِيمٍ
|
Pickthal: |
That this is in truth the word of an honoured messenger, |
Shakir: |
Most surely it is the Word of an honored messenger, |
Yusuf Ali: |
Verily this is the word of a most honourable Messenger, |
Ayah: 20 |
|
Arabic: |
ذِي
قُوَّةٍ
عِندَ ذِي
الْعَرْشِ
مَكِينٍ
|
Pickthal: |
Mighty, established in the presence of the Lord of the Throne, |
Shakir: |
The processor of strength, having an honorable place with the Lord of the Dominion, |
Yusuf Ali: |
Endued with Power, with rank before the Lord of the Throne, |
Ayah: 21 |
|
Arabic: |
مُطَاعٍ
ثَمَّ
أَمِينٍ
|
Pickthal: |
(One) to be obeyed, and trustworthy; |
Shakir: |
One (to be) obeyed, and faithful in trust. |
Yusuf Ali: |
With authority there, (and) faithful to his trust. |
Ayah: 22 |
|
Arabic: |
وَمَا
صَاحِبُكُم
بِمَجْنُونٍ
|
Pickthal: |
And your comrade is not mad. |
Shakir: |
And your companion is not gone mad. |
Yusuf Ali: |
And (O people!) your companion is not one possessed; |
Ayah: 23 |
|
Arabic: |
وَلَقَدْ
رَآهُ
بِالْأُفُقِ
الْمُبِينِ
|
Pickthal: |
Surely he beheld Him on the clear horizon. |
Shakir: |
And of a truth he saw himself on the clear horizon. |
Yusuf Ali: |
And without doubt he saw him in the clear horizon. |
Ayah: 24 |
|
Arabic: |
وَمَا
هُوَ عَلَى
الْغَيْبِ
بِضَنِينٍ
|
Pickthal: |
And he is not avid of the Unseen. |
Shakir: |
Nor of the unseen is he a tenacious concealer. |
Yusuf Ali: |
Neither doth he withhold grudgingly a knowledge of the Unseen. |
Ayah: 25 |
|
Arabic: |
وَمَا
هُوَ
بِقَوْلِ
شَيْطَانٍ
رَجِيمٍ
|
Pickthal: |
Nor is this the utterance of a devil worthy to be stoned. |
Shakir: |
Nor is it the word of the cursed Shaitan, |
Yusuf Ali: |
Nor is it the word of an evil spirit accursed. |
Ayah: 26 |
|
Arabic: |
فَأَيْنَ
تَذْهَبُونَ
|
Pickthal: |
Whither then go ye? |
Shakir: |
Whither then will you go? |
Yusuf Ali: |
When whither go ye? |
Ayah: 27 |
|
Arabic: |
إِنْ
هُوَ
إِلَّا
ذِكْرٌ
لِّلْعَالَمِينَ
|
Pickthal: |
This is naught else than a reminder unto creation, |
Shakir: |
It is naught but a reminder for the nations, |
Yusuf Ali: |
Verily this is no less than a Message to (all) the Worlds: |
Ayah: 28 |
|
Arabic: |
لِمَن
شَاء
مِنكُمْ
أَن
يَسْتَقِيمَ
|
Pickthal: |
Unto whomsoever of you willeth to walk straight. |
Shakir: |
For him among you who pleases to go straight. |
Yusuf Ali: |
(With profit) to whoever among you wills to go straight: |
Ayah: 29 |
|
Arabic: |
وَمَا
تَشَاؤُونَ
إِلَّا أَن
يَشَاء
اللَّهُ
رَبُّ
الْعَالَمِينَ
|
Pickthal: |
And ye will not, unless (it be) that Allah willeth, the Lord of Creation. |
Shakir: |
And you do not please except that Allah please, the Lord of the worlds. |
Yusuf Ali: |
But ye shall not will except as Allah wills,- the Cherisher of the Worlds. |
