Translations

Surah Ash-Shams (the sun)

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful.
Total Verses : 15 - Listen to Recitation of this Surah with Translation

Ayah: 1
Arabic:	وَالشَّمْسِ وَضُحَاهَا
Yusuf Ali:	By the Sun and his (glorious) splendour;

Ayah: 3
Arabic:	وَالنَّهَارِ إِذَا جَلَّاهَا
Yusuf Ali:	By the Day as it shows up (the Sun's) glory;

Ayah: 4
Arabic:	وَاللَّيْلِ إِذَا يَغْشَاهَا
Yusuf Ali:	By the Night as it conceals it;

Ayah: 5
Arabic:	وَالسَّمَاء وَمَا بَنَاهَا
Yusuf Ali:	By the Firmament and its (wonderful) structure;

Ayah: 6
Arabic:	وَالْأَرْضِ وَمَا طَحَاهَا
Yusuf Ali:	By the Earth and its (wide) expanse:

Ayah: 7
Arabic:	وَنَفْسٍ وَمَا سَوَّاهَا
Yusuf Ali:	By the Soul, and the proportion and order given to it;

Ayah: 8
Arabic:	فَأَلْهَمَهَا فُجُورَهَا وَتَقْوَاهَا
Yusuf Ali:	And its enlightenment as to its wrong and its right;-

Ayah: 9
Arabic:	قَدْ أَفْلَحَ مَن زَكَّاهَا
Yusuf Ali:	Truly he succeeds that purifies it,

Ayah: 11
Arabic:	كَذَّبَتْ ثَمُودُ بِطَغْوَاهَا
Yusuf Ali:	The Thamud (people) rejected (their prophet) through their inordinate wrong-doing,

Ayah: 12
Arabic:	إِذِ انبَعَثَ أَشْقَاهَا
Yusuf Ali:	Behold, the most wicked man among them was deputed (for impiety).

Ayah: 13
Arabic:	فَقَالَ لَهُمْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ نَاقَةَ اللَّهِ وَسُقْيَاهَا
Yusuf Ali:	But the Messenger of Allah said to them: "It is a She-camel of Allah! And (bar her not from) having her drink!"

Ayah: 14
Arabic:	فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَعَقَرُوهَا فَدَمْدَمَ عَلَيْهِمْ رَبُّهُم بِذَنبِهِمْ فَسَوَّاهَا
Yusuf Ali:	Then they rejected him (as a false prophet), and they hamstrung her. So their Lord, on account of their crime, obliterated theirtraces and made them equal (in destruction, high and low)!

Ayah: 15
Arabic:	وَلَا يَخَافُ عُقْبَاهَا
Yusuf Ali:	And for Him is no fear of its consequences.
