Ha-Mim. |
Ayah: 2 |
|
Arabic: |
وَالْكِتَابِ
الْمُبِينِ
|
Pickthal: |
By the Scripture that maketh plain |
Shakir: |
I swear by the Book that makes manifest (the truth). |
Yusuf Ali: |
By the Book that makes things clear;- |
Ayah: 3 |
|
Arabic: |
إِنَّا
أَنزَلْنَاهُ
فِي
لَيْلَةٍ
مُّبَارَكَةٍ
إِنَّا
كُنَّا
مُنذِرِينَ
|
Pickthal: |
Lo! We revealed it on a blessed night - Lo! We are ever warning - |
Shakir: |
Surely We revealed it on a blessed night surely We are ever warning-- |
Yusuf Ali: |
We sent it down during a Blessed Night: for We (ever) wish to warn (against Evil). |
Ayah: 4 |

فِيهَا
يُفْرَقُ
كُلُّ
أَمْرٍ
حَكِيمٍ
|
Pickthal: |
Whereon every wise command is made clear |
Shakir: |
Therein every wise affair is made distinct, |
Yusuf Ali: |
In the (Night) is made distinct every affair of wisdom, |
Ayah: 5 |
|
Arabic: |
أَمْرًا
مِّنْ
عِندِنَا
إِنَّا
كُنَّا
مُرْسِلِينَ
|
Pickthal: |
As a command from Our presence - Lo! We are ever sending - |
Shakir: |
A command from Us; surely We are the senders (of messengers), |
Yusuf Ali: |
By command, from Our Presence. For We (ever) send (revelations), |
Ayah: 6 |

رَحْمَةً
مِّن
رَّبِّكَ
إِنَّهُ
هُوَ
السَّمِيعُ
الْعَلِيمُ
|
Pickthal: |
A mercy from thy Lord. Lo! He, even He is the Hearer, the Knower, |
Shakir: |
A mercy from your Lord, surely He is the Hearing, the Knowing, |
Yusuf Ali: |
As Mercy from thy Lord: for He hears and knows (all things); |
Ayah: 7 |

رَبِّ
السَّمَاوَاتِ
وَالْأَرْضِ
وَمَا
بَيْنَهُمَا
إِن كُنتُم
مُّوقِنِينَ
|
Pickthal: |
Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if ye would be sure. |
Shakir: |
The Lord of the heavens and the earth and what is between them, if you would be sure. |
Yusuf Ali: |
The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all between them, if ye (but) have an assured faith. |
Ayah: 8 |

لَا
إِلَهَ
إِلَّا
هُوَ
يُحْيِي
وَيُمِيتُ
رَبُّكُمْ
وَرَبُّ
آبَائِكُمُ
الْأَوَّلِينَ
|
Pickthal: |
There is no Allah save Him. He quickeneth and giveth death; your Lord and Lord of your forefathers. |
Shakir: |
There is no god but He; He gives life and causes death, your Lord and the Lord of your fathers of yore. |
Yusuf Ali: |
There is no god but He: It is He Who gives life and gives death,- The Lord and Cherisher to you and your earliest ancestors. |
Ayah: 9 |
|
Arabic: |
بَلْ
هُمْ فِي
شَكٍّ
يَلْعَبُونَ
|
Pickthal: |
Nay, but they play in doubt. |
Shakir: |
Nay, they are in doubt, they sport. |
Yusuf Ali: |
Yet they play about in doubt. |
Ayah: 10 |
|
Arabic: |
فَارْتَقِبْ
يَوْمَ
تَأْتِي
السَّمَاء
بِدُخَانٍ
مُّبِينٍ
|
Pickthal: |
But watch thou (O Muhammad) for the day when the sky will produce visible smoke |
Shakir: |
Therefore keep waiting for the day when the heaven shall bring an evident smoke, |
Yusuf Ali: |
Then watch thou for the Day that the sky will bring forth a kind of smoke (or mist) plainly visible, |
Ayah: 11 |
|
Arabic: |
يَغْشَى
النَّاسَ
هَذَا
عَذَابٌ
أَلِيمٌ
|
Pickthal: |
That will envelop the people. This will be a painful torment. |
Shakir: |
That shall overtake men; this is a painful punishment. |
Yusuf Ali: |
Enveloping the people: this will be a Penalty Grievous. |
Ayah: 12 |

Arabic: |
رَبَّنَا
اكْشِفْ
عَنَّا
الْعَذَابَ
إِنَّا
مُؤْمِنُونَ
|
Pickthal: |
(Then they will say): Our Lord relieve us of the torment. Lo! we are believers. |
Shakir: |
Our Lord! remove from us the punishment; surely we are believers. |
Yusuf Ali: |
(They will say:) "Our Lord! remove the Penalty from us, for we do really believe!" |
Ayah: 13 |

أَنَّى
لَهُمُ
الذِّكْرَى
وَقَدْ
جَاءهُمْ
رَسُولٌ
مُّبِينٌ
|
Pickthal: |
How can there be remembrance for them, when a messenger making plain (the Truth) had already come unto them, |
Shakir: |
How shall they be reminded, and there came to them an Messenger making clear (the truth), |
Yusuf Ali: |
How shall the message be (effectual) for them, seeing that an Messenger explaining things clearly has (already) come to them,- |
Ayah: 14 |
|
Arabic: |
ثُمَّ
تَوَلَّوْا
عَنْهُ
وَقَالُوا
مُعَلَّمٌ
مَّجْنُونٌ
|
Pickthal: |
And they had turned away from him and said: One taught (by others), a madman? |
Shakir: |
Yet they turned their backs on him and said: One taught (by others), a madman. |
Yusuf Ali: |
Yet they turn away from him and say: "Tutored (by others), a man possessed!" |
Ayah: 15 |
|
Arabic: |
إِنَّا
كَاشِفُو
الْعَذَابِ
قَلِيلًا
إِنَّكُمْ
عَائِدُونَ
|
Pickthal: |
Lo! We withdraw the torment a little. Lo! ye return (to disbelief). |
Shakir: |
Surely We will remove the punishment a little, (but) you will surely return (to evil). |
Yusuf Ali: |
We shall indeed remove the Penalty for a while, (but) truly ye will revert (to your ways). |
Ayah: 16 |

يَوْمَ
نَبْطِشُ
الْبَطْشَةَ
الْكُبْرَى
إِنَّا
مُنتَقِمُونَ
|
Pickthal: |
On the day when We shall seize them with the greater seizure, (then) in truth We shall punish. |
Shakir: |
On the day when We will seize (them) with the most violent seizing; surely We will inflict retribution. |
Yusuf Ali: |
One day We shall seize you with a mighty onslaught: We will indeed (then) exact Retribution! |
Ayah: 17 |

وَلَقَدْ
فَتَنَّا
قَبْلَهُمْ
قَوْمَ
فِرْعَوْنَ
وَجَاءهُمْ
رَسُولٌ
كَرِيمٌ
|
Pickthal: |
And verily We tried before them Pharaoh's folk, when there came unto them a noble messenger, |
Shakir: |
And certainly We tried before them the people of Firon, and there came to them a noble messenger, |
Yusuf Ali: |
We did, before them, try the people of Pharaoh: there came to them a messenger most honourable, |
Ayah: 18 |

أَنْ
أَدُّوا
إِلَيَّ
عِبَادَ
اللَّهِ
إِنِّي
لَكُمْ
رَسُولٌ
أَمِينٌ
|
Pickthal: |
Saying: Give up to me the slaves of Allah. Lo! I am a faithful messenger unto you. |
Shakir: |
Saying: Deliver to me the servants of Allah, surely I am a faithful messenger to you, |
Yusuf Ali: |
Saying: "Restore to me the Servants of Allah: I am to you an messenger worthy of all trust; |
Ayah: 19 |

Arabic: |
وَأَنْ
لَّا
تَعْلُوا
عَلَى
اللَّهِ
إِنِّي
آتِيكُم
بِسُلْطَانٍ
مُّبِينٍ
|
Pickthal: |
And saying: Be not proud against Allah. Lo! I bring you a clear warrant. |
Shakir: |
And that do not exalt yourselves against Allah, surely I will bring to you a clear authority: |
Yusuf Ali: |
"And be not arrogant as against Allah: for I come to you with authority manifest. |
Ayah: 20 |
|
Arabic: |
وَإِنِّي
عُذْتُ
بِرَبِّي
وَرَبِّكُمْ
أَن
تَرْجُمُونِ
|
Pickthal: |
And lo! I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord lest ye stone me to death. |
Shakir: |
And surely I take refuge with my Lord and your Lord that you should stone me to death: |
Yusuf Ali: |
"For me, I have sought safety with my Lord and your Lord, against your injuring me. |
Ayah: 21 |
|
Arabic: |
وَإِنْ
لَّمْ
تُؤْمِنُوا
لِي
فَاعْتَزِلُونِ
|
Pickthal: |
And if ye put no faith in me, then let me go. |
Shakir: |
And if you do not believe in me, then leave me alone. |
Yusuf Ali: |
"If ye believe me not, at least keep yourselves away from me." |
Ayah: 22 |

Arabic: |
فَدَعَا
رَبَّهُ
أَنَّ
هَؤُلَاء
قَوْمٌ
مُّجْرِمُونَ
|
Pickthal: |
And he cried unto his Lord, (saying): These are guilty folk. |
Shakir: |
Then he called upon his Lord: These are a guilty people. |
Yusuf Ali: |
(But they were aggressive:) then he cried to his Lord: "These are indeed a people given to sin." |
Ayah: 23 |

Arabic: |
فَأَسْرِ
بِعِبَادِي
لَيْلًا
إِنَّكُم
مُّتَّبَعُونَ
|
Pickthal: |
Then (his Lord commanded): Take away My slaves by night. Lo! ye will be followed, |
Shakir: |
So go forth with My servants by night; surely you will be pursued: |
Yusuf Ali: |
(The reply came:) "March forth with My Servants by night: for ye are sure to be pursued. |
Ayah: 24 |

Arabic: |
وَاتْرُكْ
الْبَحْرَ
رَهْوًا
إِنَّهُمْ
جُندٌ
مُّغْرَقُونَ
|
Pickthal: |
And leave the sea behind at rest, for lo! they are a drowned host. |
Shakir: |
And leave the sea intervening; surely they are a host that shall be drowned. |
Yusuf Ali: |
"And leave the sea as a furrow (divided): for they are a host (destined) to be drowned." |
Ayah: 25 |

كَمْ
تَرَكُوا
مِن
جَنَّاتٍ
وَعُيُونٍ
|
Pickthal: |
How many were the gardens and the watersprings that they left behind, |
Shakir: |
How many of the gardens and fountains have they left! |
Yusuf Ali: |
How many were the gardens and springs they left behind, |
Ayah: 26 |
|
Arabic: |
وَزُرُوعٍ
وَمَقَامٍ
كَرِيمٍ
|
Pickthal: |
And the cornlands and the goodly sites |
Shakir: |
And cornfields and noble places! |
Yusuf Ali: |
And corn-fields and noble buildings, |
Ayah: 27 |
|
Arabic: |
وَنَعْمَةٍ
كَانُوا
فِيهَا
فَاكِهِينَ
|
Pickthal: |
And pleasant things wherein they took delight! |
Shakir: |
And goodly things wherein they rejoiced; |
Yusuf Ali: |
And wealth (and conveniences of life), wherein they had taken such delight! |
Ayah: 28 |

Arabic: |
كَذَلِكَ
وَأَوْرَثْنَاهَا
قَوْمًا
آخَرِينَ
|
Pickthal: |
Even so (it was), and We made it an inheritance for other folk; |
Shakir: |
Thus (it was), and We gave them as a heritage to another people. |
Yusuf Ali: |
Thus (was their end)! And We made other people inherit (those things)! |
Ayah: 29 |

Arabic: |
فَمَا
بَكَتْ
عَلَيْهِمُ
السَّمَاء
وَالْأَرْضُ
وَمَا
كَانُوا
مُنظَرِينَ
|
Pickthal: |
And the heaven and the earth wept not for them, nor were they reprieved. |
Shakir: |
So the heaven and the earth did not weep for them, nor were they respited. |
Yusuf Ali: |
And neither heaven nor earth shed a tear over them: nor were they given a respite (again). |
Ayah: 30 |

Arabic: |
وَلَقَدْ
نَجَّيْنَا
بَنِي
إِسْرَائِيلَ
مِنَ
الْعَذَابِ
الْمُهِينِ
|
Pickthal: |
And We delivered the Children of Israel from the shameful doom; |
Shakir: |
And certainly We delivered the children of Israel from the abasing chastisement, |
Yusuf Ali: |
We did deliver aforetime the Children of Israel from humiliating Punishment, |
Ayah: 31 |
|
Arabic: |
مِن
فِرْعَوْنَ
إِنَّهُ
كَانَ
عَالِيًا
مِّنَ
الْمُسْرِفِينَ
|
Pickthal: |
(We delivered them) from Pharaoh. Lo! he was a tyrant of the wanton ones. |
Shakir: |
From Firon; surely he was haughty, (and) one of the extravagant. |
Yusuf Ali: |
Inflicted by Pharaoh, for he was arrogant (even) among inordinate transgressors. |
Ayah: 32 |

Arabic: |
وَلَقَدِ
اخْتَرْنَاهُمْ
عَلَى
عِلْمٍ
عَلَى
الْعَالَمِينَ
|
Pickthal: |
And We chose them, purposely, above (all) creatures. |
Shakir: |
And certainly We chose them, having knowledge, above the nations. |
Yusuf Ali: |
And We chose them aforetime above the nations, knowingly, |
Ayah: 33 |
|
Arabic: |
وَآتَيْنَاهُم
مِّنَ
الْآيَاتِ
مَا فِيهِ
بَلَاء
مُّبِينٌ
|
Pickthal: |
And We gave them portents wherein was a clear trial. |
Shakir: |
And We gave them of the communications wherein was clear blessing. |
Yusuf Ali: |
And granted them Signs in which there was a manifest trial |
Ayah: 34 |

إِنَّ
هَؤُلَاء
لَيَقُولُونَ
|
Pickthal: |
Lo! these, forsooth, are saying: |
Shakir: |
Most surely these do say: |
Yusuf Ali: |
As to these (Quraish), they say forsooth: |
Ayah: 35 |
|
Arabic: |
إِنْ
هِيَ
إِلَّا
مَوْتَتُنَا
الْأُولَى
وَمَا
نَحْنُ
بِمُنشَرِينَ
|
Pickthal: |
There is naught but our first death, and we shall not be raised again. |
Shakir: |
There is naught but our first death and we shall not be raised again. |
Yusuf Ali: |
"There is nothing beyond our first death, and we shall not be raised again. |
Ayah: 36 |

Arabic: |
فَأْتُوا
بِآبَائِنَا
إِن
كُنتُمْ
صَادِقِينَ
|
Pickthal: |
Bring back our fathers, if ye speak the truth! |
Shakir: |
So bring our fathers (back), if you are truthful. |
Yusuf Ali: |
"Then bring (back) our forefathers, if what ye say is true!" |
Ayah: 37 |

Arabic: |
أَهُمْ
خَيْرٌ
أَمْ
قَوْمُ
تُبَّعٍ
وَالَّذِينَ
مِن
قَبْلِهِمْ
أَهْلَكْنَاهُمْ
إِنَّهُمْ
كَانُوا
مُجْرِمِينَ
|
Pickthal: |
Are they better, or the folk of Tubb'a and those before them? We destroyed them, for surely they were guilty. |
Shakir: |
Are they better or the people of Tubba and those before them? We destroyed them, for surely they were guilty. |
Yusuf Ali: |
What! Are they better than the people of Tubba and those who were before them? We destroyed them because they were guilty of sin. |
Ayah: 38 |

Arabic: |
وَمَا
خَلَقْنَا
السَّمَاوَاتِ
وَالْأَرْضَ
وَمَا
بَيْنَهُمَا
لَاعِبِينَ
|
Pickthal: |
And We created not the heavens and the earth, and all that is between them, in play. |
Shakir: |
And We did not create the heavens and the earth and what is between them in sport. |
Yusuf Ali: |
We created not the heavens, the earth, and all between them, merely in (idle) sport: |
Ayah: 39 |

Arabic: |
مَا
خَلَقْنَاهُمَا
إِلَّا
بِالْحَقِّ
وَلَكِنَّ
أَكْثَرَهُمْ
لَا
يَعْلَمُونَ
|
Pickthal: |
We created them not save with truth; but most of them know not. |
Shakir: |
We did not create them both but with the truth, but most of them do not know. |
Yusuf Ali: |
We created them not except for just ends: but most of them do not understand. |
Ayah: 40 |
|
Arabic: |
إِنَّ
يَوْمَ
الْفَصْلِ
مِيقَاتُهُمْ
أَجْمَعِينَ
|
Pickthal: |
Assuredly the Day of Decision is the term for all of them, |
Shakir: |
Surely the day of separation is their appointed term, of all of them |
Yusuf Ali: |
Verily the Day of sorting out is the time appointed for all of them,- |
Ayah: 41 |

يَوْمَ
لَا
يُغْنِي
مَوْلًى
عَن
مَّوْلًى
شَيْئًا
وَلَا هُمْ
يُنصَرُونَ
|
Pickthal: |
A day when friend can in naught avail friend, nor can they be helped, |
Shakir: |
The day on which a friend shall not avail (his) friend aught, nor shall they be helped, |
Yusuf Ali: |
The Day when no protector can avail his client in aught, and no help can they receive, |
Ayah: 42 |

Arabic: |
إِلَّا
مَن
رَّحِمَ
اللَّهُ
إِنَّهُ
هُوَ
الْعَزِيزُ
الرَّحِيمُ
|
Pickthal: |
Save him on whom Allah hath mercy. Lo! He is the Mighty, the Merciful. |
Shakir: |
Save those on whom Allah shall have mercy; surely He is the Mighty the Merciful. |
Yusuf Ali: |
Except such as receive Allah's Mercy: for He is Exalted in Might, Most Merciful. |
Ayah: 43 |

Arabic: |
إِنَّ
شَجَرَةَ
الزَّقُّومِ
|
Pickthal: |
Lo! the tree of Zaqqum, |
Shakir: |
Surely the tree of the Zaqqum, |
Yusuf Ali: |
Verily the tree of Zaqqum |
Ayah: 44 |
|
Arabic: |
طَعَامُ
الْأَثِيمِ
|
Pickthal: |
The food of the sinner! |
Shakir: |
Is the food of the sinful |
Yusuf Ali: |
Will be the food of the Sinful,- |
Ayah: 45 |
|
Arabic: |
كَالْمُهْلِ
يَغْلِي
فِي
الْبُطُونِ
|
Pickthal: |
Like molten brass, it seetheth in their bellies |
Shakir: |
Like dregs of oil; it shall boil in (their) bellies, |
Yusuf Ali: |
Like molten brass; it will boil in their insides. |
Ayah: 46 |
|
Arabic: |
كَغَلْيِ
الْحَمِيمِ
|
Pickthal: |
As the seething of boiling water. |
Shakir: |
Like the boiling of hot water. |
Yusuf Ali: |
Like the boiling of scalding water. |
Ayah: 47 |
|
Arabic: |
خُذُوهُ
فَاعْتِلُوهُ
إِلَى
سَوَاء
الْجَحِيمِ
|
Pickthal: |
(And it will be said): Take him and drag him to the midst of hell, |
Shakir: |
Seize him, then drag him down into the middle of the hell; |
Yusuf Ali: |
(A voice will cry: "Seize ye him and drag him into the midst of the Blazing Fire! |
Ayah: 48 |

Arabic: |
ثُمَّ
صُبُّوا
فَوْقَ
رَأْسِهِ
مِنْ
عَذَابِ
الْحَمِيمِ
|
Pickthal: |
Then pour upon his head the torment of boiling water. |
Shakir: |
Then pour above his head of the torment of the boiling water: |
Yusuf Ali: |
"Then pour over his head the Penalty of Boiling Water, |
Ayah: 49 |

Arabic: |
ذُقْ
إِنَّكَ
أَنتَ
الْعَزِيزُ
الْكَرِيمُ
|
Pickthal: |
(Saying): Taste! Lo! thou wast forsooth the mighty, the noble! |
Shakir: |
Taste; you forsooth are the mighty, the honorable: |
Yusuf Ali: |
"Taste thou (this)! Truly wast thou mighty, full of honour! |
Ayah: 50 |

إِنَّ
هَذَا مَا
كُنتُم
بِهِ
تَمْتَرُونَ
|
Pickthal: |
Lo! this is that whereof ye used to doubt. |
Shakir: |
Surely this is what you disputed about. |
Yusuf Ali: |
"Truly this is what ye used to doubt!" |
Ayah: 51 |

Arabic: |
إِنَّ
الْمُتَّقِينَ
فِي
مَقَامٍ
أَمِينٍ
|
Pickthal: |
Lo! those who kept their duty will be in a place secured. |
Shakir: |
Surely those who guard (against evil) are in a secure place, |
Yusuf Ali: |
As to the Righteous (they will be) in a position of Security, |
Ayah: 52 |

Arabic: |
فِي
جَنَّاتٍ
وَعُيُونٍ
|
Pickthal: |
Amid gardens and watersprings, |
Shakir: |
In gardens and springs; |
Yusuf Ali: |
Among Gardens and Springs; |
Ayah: 53 |
|
Arabic: |
يَلْبَسُونَ
مِن
سُندُسٍ
وَإِسْتَبْرَقٍ
مُّتَقَابِلِينَ
|
Pickthal: |
Attired in silk and silk embroidery, facing one another. |
Shakir: |
They shall wear of fine and thick silk, (sitting) face to face; |
Yusuf Ali: |
Dressed in fine silk and in rich brocade, they will face each other; |
Ayah: 54 |
|
Arabic: |
كَذَلِكَ
وَزَوَّجْنَاهُم
بِحُورٍ
عِينٍ
|
Pickthal: |
Even so (it will be). And We shall wed them unto fair ones with wide, lovely eyes. |
Shakir: |
Thus (shall it be), and We will wed them with Houris pure, beautiful ones. |
Yusuf Ali: |
So; and We shall join them to fair women with beautiful, big, and lustrous eyes. |
Ayah: 55 |

Arabic: |
يَدْعُونَ
فِيهَا
بِكُلِّ
فَاكِهَةٍ
آمِنِينَ
|
Pickthal: |
They call therein for every fruit in safety. |
Shakir: |
They shall call therein for every fruit in security; |
Yusuf Ali: |
There can they call for every kind of fruit in peace and security; |
Ayah: 56 |

Arabic: |
لَا
يَذُوقُونَ
فِيهَا
الْمَوْتَ
إِلَّا
الْمَوْتَةَ
الْأُولَى
وَوَقَاهُمْ
عَذَابَ
الْجَحِيمِ
|
Pickthal: |
They taste not death therein, save the first death. And He hath saved them from the doom of hell, |
Shakir: |
They shall not taste therein death except the first death, and He will save them from the punishment of the hell, |
Yusuf Ali: |
Nor will they there taste Death, except the first death; and He will preserve them from the Penalty of the Blazing Fire,- |
Ayah: 57 |

Arabic: |
فَضْلًا
مِّن
رَّبِّكَ
ذَلِكَ
هُوَ
الْفَوْزُ
الْعَظِيمُ
|
Pickthal: |
A bounty from thy Lord. That is the supreme triumph. |
Shakir: |
A grace from your Lord; this is the great achievement. |
Yusuf Ali: |
As a Bounty from thy Lord! that will be the supreme achievement! |
Ayah: 58 |
|
Arabic: |
فَإِنَّمَا
يَسَّرْنَاهُ
بِلِسَانِكَ
لَعَلَّهُمْ
يَتَذَكَّرُونَ
|
Pickthal: |
And We have made (this Scripture) easy in thy language only that they may heed. |
Shakir: |
So have We made it easy in your tongue that they may be mindful. |
Yusuf Ali: |
Verily, We have made this (Qur'an) easy, in thy tongue, in order that they may give heed. |
Ayah: 59 |

Arabic: |
فَارْتَقِبْ

مُّرْتَقِبُونَ

Wait then (O Muhammad). Lo! they (too) are waiting. |

Therefore wait; surely they are waiting. |
