Surah Ad-Dukhan (smoke)

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful.
Total Verses : 59 - Listen to Recitation of this Surah with Translation

Ayah: 1
Arabic:	حم
Yusuf Ali:	Ha-Mim.

Ayah: 2
Arabic:	وَالْكِتَابِ الْمُبِينِ
Yusuf Ali:	By the Book that makes things clear;-

Ayah: 3
Arabic:	إِنَّا أَنزَلْنَاهُ فِي لَيْلَةٍ مُّبَارَكَةٍ إِنَّا كُنَّا مُنذِرِينَ
Yusuf Ali:	We sent it down during a Blessed Night: for We (ever) wish to warn (against Evil).

Ayah: 4
Arabic:	فِيهَا يُفْرَقُ كُلُّ أَمْرٍ حَكِيمٍ
Yusuf Ali:	In the (Night) is made distinct every affair of wisdom,

Ayah: 5
Arabic:	أَمْرًا مِّنْ عِندِنَا إِنَّا كُنَّا مُرْسِلِينَ
Yusuf Ali:	By command, from Our Presence. For We (ever) send (revelations),

Ayah: 6
Arabic:	رَحْمَةً مِّن رَّبِّكَ إِنَّهُ هُوَ السَّمِيعُ الْعَلِيمُ
Yusuf Ali:	As Mercy from thy Lord: for He hears and knows (all things);

Ayah: 7
Arabic:	رَبِّ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا إِن كُنتُم مُّوقِنِينَ
Yusuf Ali:	The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all between them, if ye (but) have an assured faith.

Ayah: 8
Arabic:	لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا هُوَ يُحْيِي وَيُمِيتُ رَبُّكُمْ وَرَبُّ آبَائِكُمُ الْأَوَّلِينَ
Yusuf Ali:	There is no god but He: It is He Who gives life and gives death,- The Lord and Cherisher to you and your earliest ancestors.

Ayah: 9
Arabic:	بَلْ هُمْ فِي شَكٍّ يَلْعَبُونَ
Yusuf Ali:	Yet they play about in doubt.

Ayah: 10
Arabic:	فَارْتَقِبْ يَوْمَ تَأْتِي السَّمَاء بِدُخَانٍ مُّبِينٍ
Yusuf Ali:	Then watch thou for the Day that the sky will bring forth a kind of smoke (or mist) plainly visible,

Ayah: 11
Arabic:	يَغْشَى النَّاسَ هَذَا عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ
Yusuf Ali:	Enveloping the people: this will be a Penalty Grievous.

Ayah: 12
Arabic:	رَبَّنَا اكْشِفْ عَنَّا الْعَذَابَ إِنَّا مُؤْمِنُونَ
Yusuf Ali:	(They will say:) "Our Lord! remove the Penalty from us, for we do really believe!"

Ayah: 13
Arabic:	أَنَّى لَهُمُ الذِّكْرَى وَقَدْ جَاءهُمْ رَسُولٌ مُّبِينٌ
Yusuf Ali:	How shall the message be (effectual) for them, seeing that an Messenger explaining things clearly has (already) come to them,-

Ayah: 14
Arabic:	ثُمَّ تَوَلَّوْا عَنْهُ وَقَالُوا مُعَلَّمٌ مَّجْنُونٌ
Yusuf Ali:	Yet they turn away from him and say: "Tutored (by others), a man possessed!"

Ayah: 15
Arabic:	إِنَّا كَاشِفُو الْعَذَابِ قَلِيلًا إِنَّكُمْ عَائِدُونَ
Yusuf Ali:	We shall indeed remove the Penalty for a while, (but) truly ye will revert (to your ways).

Ayah: 16
Arabic:	يَوْمَ نَبْطِشُ الْبَطْشَةَ الْكُبْرَى إِنَّا مُنتَقِمُونَ
Yusuf Ali:	One day We shall seize you with a mighty onslaught: We will indeed (then) exact Retribution!

Ayah: 17
Arabic:	وَلَقَدْ فَتَنَّا قَبْلَهُمْ قَوْمَ فِرْعَوْنَ وَجَاءهُمْ رَسُولٌ كَرِيمٌ
Yusuf Ali:	We did, before them, try the people of Pharaoh: there came to them a messenger most honourable,

Ayah: 18
Arabic:	أَنْ أَدُّوا إِلَيَّ عِبَادَ اللَّهِ إِنِّي لَكُمْ رَسُولٌ أَمِينٌ
Yusuf Ali:	Saying: "Restore to me the Servants of Allah: I am to you an messenger worthy of all trust;

Ayah: 19
Arabic:	وَأَنْ لَّا تَعْلُوا عَلَى اللَّهِ إِنِّي آتِيكُم بِسُلْطَانٍ مُّبِينٍ
Yusuf Ali:	"And be not arrogant as against Allah: for I come to you with authority manifest.

Ayah: 20
Arabic:	وَإِنِّي عُذْتُ بِرَبِّي وَرَبِّكُمْ أَن تَرْجُمُونِ
Yusuf Ali:	"For me, I have sought safety with my Lord and your Lord, against your injuring me.

Ayah: 21
Arabic:	وَإِنْ لَّمْ تُؤْمِنُوا لِي فَاعْتَزِلُونِ
Yusuf Ali:	"If ye believe me not, at least keep yourselves away from me."

Ayah: 22
Arabic:	فَدَعَا رَبَّهُ أَنَّ هَؤُلَاء قَوْمٌ مُّجْرِمُونَ
Yusuf Ali:	(But they were aggressive:) then he cried to his Lord: "These are indeed a people given to sin."

Ayah: 23
Arabic:	فَأَسْرِ بِعِبَادِي لَيْلًا إِنَّكُم مُّتَّبَعُونَ
Yusuf Ali:	(The reply came:) "March forth with My Servants by night: for ye are sure to be pursued.

Ayah: 24
Arabic:	وَاتْرُكْ الْبَحْرَ رَهْوًا إِنَّهُمْ جُندٌ مُّغْرَقُونَ
Yusuf Ali:	"And leave the sea as a furrow (divided): for they are a host (destined) to be drowned."

Ayah: 25
Arabic:	كَمْ تَرَكُوا مِن جَنَّاتٍ وَعُيُونٍ
Yusuf Ali:	How many were the gardens and springs they left behind,

Ayah: 26
Arabic:	وَزُرُوعٍ وَمَقَامٍ كَرِيمٍ
Yusuf Ali:	And corn-fields and noble buildings,

Ayah: 27
Arabic:	وَنَعْمَةٍ كَانُوا فِيهَا فَاكِهِينَ
Yusuf Ali:	And wealth (and conveniences of life), wherein they had taken such delight!

Ayah: 28
Arabic:	كَذَلِكَ وَأَوْرَثْنَاهَا قَوْمًا آخَرِينَ
Yusuf Ali:	Thus (was their end)! And We made other people inherit (those things)!

Ayah: 29
Arabic:	فَمَا بَكَتْ عَلَيْهِمُ السَّمَاء وَالْأَرْضُ وَمَا كَانُوا مُنظَرِينَ
Yusuf Ali:	And neither heaven nor earth shed a tear over them: nor were they given a respite (again).

Ayah: 30
Arabic:	وَلَقَدْ نَجَّيْنَا بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ مِنَ الْعَذَابِ الْمُهِينِ
Yusuf Ali:	We did deliver aforetime the Children of Israel from humiliating Punishment,

Ayah: 31
Arabic:	مِن فِرْعَوْنَ إِنَّهُ كَانَ عَالِيًا مِّنَ الْمُسْرِفِينَ
Yusuf Ali:	Inflicted by Pharaoh, for he was arrogant (even) among inordinate transgressors.

Ayah: 32
Arabic:	وَلَقَدِ اخْتَرْنَاهُمْ عَلَى عِلْمٍ عَلَى الْعَالَمِينَ
Yusuf Ali:	And We chose them aforetime above the nations, knowingly,

Ayah: 33
Arabic:	وَآتَيْنَاهُم مِّنَ الْآيَاتِ مَا فِيهِ بَلَاء مُّبِينٌ
Yusuf Ali:	And granted them Signs in which there was a manifest trial

Ayah: 34
Arabic:	إِنَّ هَؤُلَاء لَيَقُولُونَ
Yusuf Ali:	As to these (Quraish), they say forsooth:

Ayah: 35
Arabic:	إِنْ هِيَ إِلَّا مَوْتَتُنَا الْأُولَى وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمُنشَرِينَ
Yusuf Ali:	"There is nothing beyond our first death, and we shall not be raised again.

Ayah: 36
Arabic:	فَأْتُوا بِآبَائِنَا إِن كُنتُمْ صَادِقِينَ
Yusuf Ali:	"Then bring (back) our forefathers, if what ye say is true!"

Ayah: 37
Arabic:	أَهُمْ خَيْرٌ أَمْ قَوْمُ تُبَّعٍ وَالَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِهِمْ أَهْلَكْنَاهُمْ إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا مُجْرِمِينَ
Yusuf Ali:	What! Are they better than the people of Tubba and those who were before them? We destroyed them because they were guilty of sin.

Ayah: 38
Arabic:	وَمَا خَلَقْنَا السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضَ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا لَاعِبِينَ
Yusuf Ali:	We created not the heavens, the earth, and all between them, merely in (idle) sport:

Ayah: 39
Arabic:	مَا خَلَقْنَاهُمَا إِلَّا بِالْحَقِّ وَلَكِنَّ أَكْثَرَهُمْ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ
Yusuf Ali:	We created them not except for just ends: but most of them do not understand.

Ayah: 40
Arabic:	إِنَّ يَوْمَ الْفَصْلِ مِيقَاتُهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ
Yusuf Ali:	Verily the Day of sorting out is the time appointed for all of them,-

Ayah: 41
Arabic:	يَوْمَ لَا يُغْنِي مَوْلًى عَن مَّوْلًى شَيْئًا وَلَا هُمْ يُنصَرُونَ
Yusuf Ali:	The Day when no protector can avail his client in aught, and no help can they receive,

Ayah: 42
Arabic:	إِلَّا مَن رَّحِمَ اللَّهُ إِنَّهُ هُوَ الْعَزِيزُ الرَّحِيمُ
Yusuf Ali:	Except such as receive Allah's Mercy: for He is Exalted in Might, Most Merciful.

Ayah: 43
Arabic:	إِنَّ شَجَرَةَ الزَّقُّومِ
Yusuf Ali:	Verily the tree of Zaqqum

Ayah: 44
Arabic:	طَعَامُ الْأَثِيمِ
Yusuf Ali:	Will be the food of the Sinful,-

Ayah: 45
Arabic:	كَالْمُهْلِ يَغْلِي فِي الْبُطُونِ
Yusuf Ali:	Like molten brass; it will boil in their insides.

Ayah: 46
Arabic:	كَغَلْيِ الْحَمِيمِ
Yusuf Ali:	Like the boiling of scalding water.

Ayah: 47
Arabic:	خُذُوهُ فَاعْتِلُوهُ إِلَى سَوَاء الْجَحِيمِ
Yusuf Ali:	(A voice will cry: "Seize ye him and drag him into the midst of the Blazing Fire!

Ayah: 48
Arabic:	ثُمَّ صُبُّوا فَوْقَ رَأْسِهِ مِنْ عَذَابِ الْحَمِيمِ
Yusuf Ali:	"Then pour over his head the Penalty of Boiling Water,

Ayah: 49
Arabic:	ذُقْ إِنَّكَ أَنتَ الْعَزِيزُ الْكَرِيمُ
Yusuf Ali:	"Taste thou (this)! Truly wast thou mighty, full of honour!

Ayah: 50
Arabic:	إِنَّ هَذَا مَا كُنتُم بِهِ تَمْتَرُونَ
Yusuf Ali:	"Truly this is what ye used to doubt!"

Ayah: 51
Arabic:	إِنَّ الْمُتَّقِينَ فِي مَقَامٍ أَمِينٍ
Yusuf Ali:	As to the Righteous (they will be) in a position of Security,

Ayah: 52
Arabic:	فِي جَنَّاتٍ وَعُيُونٍ
Yusuf Ali:	Among Gardens and Springs;

Ayah: 53
Arabic:	يَلْبَسُونَ مِن سُندُسٍ وَإِسْتَبْرَقٍ مُّتَقَابِلِينَ
Yusuf Ali:	Dressed in fine silk and in rich brocade, they will face each other;

Ayah: 54
Arabic:	كَذَلِكَ وَزَوَّجْنَاهُم بِحُورٍ عِينٍ
Yusuf Ali:	So; and We shall join them to fair women with beautiful, big, and lustrous eyes.

Ayah: 55
Arabic:	يَدْعُونَ فِيهَا بِكُلِّ فَاكِهَةٍ آمِنِينَ
Yusuf Ali:	There can they call for every kind of fruit in peace and security;

Ayah: 56
Arabic:	لَا يَذُوقُونَ فِيهَا الْمَوْتَ إِلَّا الْمَوْتَةَ الْأُولَى وَوَقَاهُمْ عَذَابَ الْجَحِيمِ
Yusuf Ali:	Nor will they there taste Death, except the first death; and He will preserve them from the Penalty of the Blazing Fire,-

Ayah: 57
Arabic:	فَضْلًا مِّن رَّبِّكَ ذَلِكَ هُوَ الْفَوْزُ الْعَظِيمُ
Yusuf Ali:	As a Bounty from thy Lord! that will be the supreme achievement!

Ayah: 58
Arabic:	فَإِنَّمَا يَسَّرْنَاهُ بِلِسَانِكَ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَتَذَكَّرُونَ
Yusuf Ali:	Verily, We have made this (Qur'an) easy, in thy tongue, in order that they may give heed.

Ayah: 59
Arabic:	فَارْتَقِبْ إِنَّهُم مُّرْتَقِبُونَ
Yusuf Ali:	So wait thou and watch; for they (too) are waiting.
